   Just curious to know if  hubbers follow people because they follow them

      I agree on the courtesy part..but then again, there are times when i wonder if i should follow everyone because there are some people that write on topics that am not really passionate about

   Depends on the article if the topics he/she create is about SATAN i will not follow .If someone follow me they believe in me.Im new here i will create great article soon!

   No. The point of followers here on HP is to have your work read and shared. If I do not plan on reading someone's work then why follow? The number means nothing if those followers aren't supporting your work. However if someone follows me I then go to their page and see what they write about. If they write about something I like then I follow them.
   Also when I get to their page I look to see if they are just following everyone. If they are I will not follow back. I've had followers who when I went to their page they had followed hundreds of people in a matter of a few hours of joining. Those people only hope to get followers back and have no intention of reading all of those people's work.

   I follow people who write things I like to read.  Sometimes that means I follow back.  But if somebody is just cranking out terrible work at too high a volume, I feel no obligation to be notified every time they slap something onto the internet.

   I do. I just think it is common courtesy. Someone says hello, you respond. Unless the hubber is offensive in some way I don't see the need to  be snobbish.We all write at different levels and abilities and the better writer may be able to help the less experienced writer improve. I am sure that hubbers  do not  read all the hubs they are following anyway. Can one really read all the hubs1of ,000 hubbers?

   If someone commented on my hub and followed me, I'd be gladly following back.  Since my short time here, I found great writers with interesting hubs and I've followed a few to read about topics that interests me.  Some didn't follow me back, and I don't expect them to.  The last thing I want is for anyone I follow to think that I am following just to be followed back or I won't read their hubs.  I think that the basis of following and follow back on Hub Pages should be to establish friendship with fellow hubbers, share similar interests, read each others work, encourage new people, share ideas, word of encouragement, etc.

    Yes I do, because they follow me and also to those having great hubs and useful content for me. Its good to follow someone, it gives you a chance to make someone happy. But I follow them who deserve to get followed by.

    I do not follow all of my followers. Before starting on HubPages, I read the entire Learning Center, and this what they say about following:
    
    You should only follow people who you have a genuine interest in keeping up with. By following a Hubber you are saying that their activity on HubPages is noteworthy or interesting to you. Following excessively or indiscriminately may result in a low Hubber score.
    
    For this reason, I truly only follow those Hubbers whose Hubs I enjoy.

    Yes, I follow back. As a new hubber, this helps me to understand the tone, style and content that other people are writing; exposing myself to as much of this as possible can only enhance my own hubs. Additionally, if someone has taken the trouble to find out what I write about and finds it interesting enough to follow me, then it's just good manners to follow them back.

    I do not, and I don't on any social network either.
    
    I know you're only looking for a yes or no, and you probably know what I'm about to say, but just in case you're curious about my reason.
    
    I made the mistake of doing that on Twitter, then I found that I had an unwieldy stream of messages that I couldn't read, nor were many of them relevant to me.
    
    The purpose of following people is to curate a stream of content that you want to read and respond to. If you follow everyone, then you'll end up with digital anarchy in your feed.
