   Is it HP's job to manage the overall Quality of our writings?
   
   With all of the complaints about HP and their perpetual implementation of changes and restrictions on the writers content on their site, I was just wondering if this is a good thing.
   I need to remind everyone of one fact. HP is a business and if it doesn't make money, it will not be there for us to use.
   So, are these changes a good thing for us? Or, should we watch our favorite site die?

   I think you said the answer in your question already. HP is a business and they have to maintain the quality of their site both for them and for us. I think most of the newer implementations are good. Anything that helps to weed out the junk is a good thing around here, IMO. In the past four years, I have seen the site go from full of spam and junk to full of how to articles to filled with poetry and creative writing. There is more creative writing (stories/poems/ etc.) on HP now than I have ever seen. To me, that's a good thing. It shows that HP can weed out the garbage while still providing a place for those not here to make money or not interested in SEO.
   So, yes, I do think it is HP's job to manage the quality of our writing because 1.) it is their site and they have to control what they allow out there and 2) it's been proven that many of us won't or don't manage the quality of our stuff ourselves.

      To Start Again- You summed the reality of the situation well. If you want to have a Quality site for your writings, You have to operate within Quality Control constraints. Thanks for the Answer.

      Really, no answer to that? Because they are running off programs not human intelligence. That is a failed model. But people are harder to deal with than progams. Do not act like you support people when all you are cheerleading for are programs.

   I totally agree with To Start Again.  Furthermore, I think HP is doing anything BUT dying.  There are many good writers here who produce quality work, and I for one, am happy to see it.  The team is in the process of saving the site, and I think we should commend and support them.

      timetraveler2- That;s what I want, a high quality site to exhibit my best works, and have readers see my works beside everyone elses best.

      Buddy timetraveler2, No.! What HP needs is our input. Not a cheering section of male college cheerleaders like Farrel, on SNL. This community works due to input. I do not think there is a Doctorate among HP, and not a seasoned publisher. Think?

   You know I had an answer all typed out, but frankly I deleted it. I am too upset by these new changes.
   
   Yes we need quality writing on this site--but the judgement of hubs is not a black and white issue.  If they deem something low quality, they need to let us know WHY - is it too short, too long, what is it that makes it targeted as low quality.
   
   As of now, we have to guess.

      You don't have to guess. The criteria are available. Your hubs need to score 6 or above to be featured for quality.

      Susan you are not being sincere. What is laid out is what programs are looking for. Who the heck do you hold accountable in that model? Susan what ever you got your stuff from was a maching, even Simone is leaving.

      It is unreasonable that our hubs are being "carefully" assessed .That is stupid & ridiculous.  We don't need the links Susana.   We need to know which of the criteria we are not fully meeting.   If oneof my HUBS is "poor"  then tell me why!!

   Don, I just noted that several of my stories are noted as "not featured" and did a  bit of reading on what that means. At first I was ticked, but I got over it. At least someone or someTHING is paying attention to the articles posted here! I guess it's a good thing, we'll see...

      I think it is a "something" as opposed to a someone and that is what bothers me the most regarding the judgment of content.

      resspenser- So good to hear from you, again. And Yes, HP is getting tougher on our content. Is it good? Well, one measure for me is the fact that there are less Hubs that I have to "flag" myself! LOL! I would rather be with a high quality site.

   The answer is yes and no. If we can self-manage ourselves, then HubPages would be most happy to leave us alone. Their job is to make a reasonable return on their investments which goes into the millions. We come here with two bare hands, hoping to make some money. HubPages allows us to use their facilities because they expect a cut from our earnings. It's a win-win situation. HubPages never claim to be a charitable organization.
