Do you think it's a good idea to have writing challenges from time to time ( once in a month) on HP?
I ask this because I have seen an overwhelming response to billybuc's challenge recently. No doubt it brings out the best from a writer as far as creative writing is concerned. Please share your opinion.
I think that would be fun. It would be great to have some ideas when you are experiencing writer's block.
Thanks Alyssa for your response to the question!
I agree with your opinion. Have a good day!
It would be great if they would, Chitrangada. Whenever a writer issues a writing challenge whether it be short fiction, poetry, whatever there is a huge response (as in the case of billybuc's) so the members obviously enjoy doing them. It generates so many more hubs than would otherwise be written, so it is a wonder HP doesn't take note and run regular challenges themselves. Admittedly the challenges are usually creative writing which is not the sit's main focus but any increase in hubs should be encouraged.
Thanks John for sharing your views!
I know you love writing challenges and your responses have always been so impressive. It indeed brings out the creative best from the writer. How I wish that a writer's work should not be only SEO based.
Once a month might be a little too often, but challenges from time-to-time are a lot of fun. I enjoy doing them just for the heck of it, but I've stopped entering contests that charge a fee and then don't do or allow a critique of your writing in return when you don't win or place because that is about as productive as buying a lottery ticket.
Thanks MizBejabbers, for sharing your views!
I agree with you. The challenge should not involve charges but just for the creative satisfaction.
Thanks again!
I would love a writing challenge once in awhile that would be reviewed for interest by the HP team. Just notes on what was good, needs improvement, story line, themes, etc. It would help me write well. It is great way to inspire creative writing skills. I think it also helps writers connect on HP.
Thanks Dianna for answering and sharing your valuable opinion.
Yes positive feedback is always helpful and helps to improve writing. Connecting with fellow writers is very important because they are the best to review the writing work.
Thank you!
Since I don't do fiction writing and no longer write Hubs that are non-fiction but would be considered, "creative writing", I have no interest in challenges. When I'm bored, too tired to do real work and/or want to take a break I come to this "Answers" section, look for something I think I can whip up some reply to, and see it as my own way of finding a little bit of a challenge that doesn't require a whole lot of involvement or commitment.
I'm pretty much not one for things like challenges or anything else that, to me (again, considering my lack of involvement in fiction, maybe) just feels like some kind of game or other kind of "frills" or "spin-off incentives"
BUT, having said that, I don't see a problem if HP were to add that kind of thing into the mix for anyone who may be interested in it. Obviously, there are many people on here who are into that kind of thing.
Thank you ME Whelan for your response to the question!
Q A section is indeed interesting. Thanks for sharing your views .

It seems that there is a lull, or a time of forgetfulness, or a loss of interest in our main purpose for being here. We are writers, creative people who either have a strong niche or write on several genres.Yet, in the forums we seem to be stuck on statistics, scores, ups, downs, problems, issues...

I was wondering about the contest. You see, I'm writing a novel. Would that qualify under the creative writing category? If yes, do I post it in different hubs per chapter or put everything in one hub? I'm really excited about it. I hope it qualifies. Thanks a lot!-Emzi
