Tim, I am working with the notion that all love is really the same. I know the conventional wisdom follows what our friend Threekeys laid out. And I see no reason not to use our language to describe the situational manifestations.
One interesting facet is past, present and future tenses. If as I believe in two different notions God is love and souls are not born and do not die. Then there is no linear timeline for love. I love my deceased father, I love apples. There is no time consideration there.
So in answer, I say yes. Passion is what bumps up concepts of like to love. And yes it is morally legal for an armchair quarterback to be passionate about the sport and love his team. Or one could have the opposite, apathy. I do not believe we can have passive love.
