Last week, I heard from Denise Handlon, who shared an excellent Weekly Topic Inspiration idea. In her message to me, Denise shared how inspiration struck:
“I was standing at baggage claim Monday afternoon, following my visit to see family in Michigan, including Cara-cardelean. My thoughts began to wander back in the 'good old days' when there were no conveyer belts to bring in the baggage. That sparked an idea for a Weekly Topic: Automation and how it has changed our lives in a personal way, either pro or con. For instance, the ease of the conveyer belt helping to move things for faster productivity.’
Isn’t this a cool idea? This week, I strongly encourage you to join us in sharing how automation has changed modern life (for better and for worse).
If you’re not sure which sort of automation to write about, here are some search-friendly titles to work with:
A History of the Office Automation System
How an Automation System Works
The Impact of Automated Packaging Systems
How Automated Systems Have Changed Our Lives
How Office Automation Systems Transformed the Working World
Home Automation 101
The Future of the Automated Home
How Home Automation Software Works
How Software Automation Works
Famous Industrial Automation Companies
How a Building Automation System Works
The Impact of Building Automation Systems
Major Automation Testing Tools
If you'd like to join in on this week's topic by writing a Hub, follow these steps:
1) Stop by this week's Weekly Topic Inspiration Question.
2) Click the green button "answer this question".
3) Click the gray button below the box (leave that empty) that says "make a Hub about it."
4) Give your Hub a very specific title, like Easy Summer Gardening Projects for Kids or Challenging Summer Activities for Teens
5) Create good quality original content that hasn't been covered before.
6) After you publish your Weekly Topic Inspiration Hub, come back to this forum thread and post a link to your Hub with a brief description of what you wrote about and why.
For more information on the Weekly Topic Inspiration program, check out the Learning Center guide.
I love the idea behind this topic so I thought I'd give it a try. I've taken a look at Home Automation and what difference it makes to life compared to 33 years ago (hub explains why 33yrs). You can find it here:

Thanks for the inspiration - and all the butterflies.
I like the way you've addressed the subject, AlanRimmer! This is an interesting and well laid-out Hub.
Thanks Simone, always nice to get poitive feedback. Really interesting to read the different ideas around the subject. Looking forward to reading more.
What a great thing to ponder! I consider myself extremely happy in regards to technological advancements, even though I can't afford to get all of the gadgets I want quite yet....
Here is my take on automation, technology, and how it helps us every day:

Nice job with the added touch of the video! Cool!
Hi Simone. What a wild surprise to have part of my message to you posted here! hahaha. Thanks for using the idea and I am hoping to get my hub out early this week!
great idea...so many thoughts are running through my head I will have to see which one lands on a hub
Cool! I'm glad you've been 'enticed' OPA ! (was that said in the right context?)
Are we permitted to post a link to a hub that has already been published? Also, does someone review the hubs to make sure they fit with the topic appropriately? One of my first hubs may fit the bill, but I don't want to put a link if I shouldn't. Thanks very much.
Hi Glimmer...sorry, the links here, if I recall accurately, are for new hubs written about the topic. HOWEVER, you may certainly link your previous hub to your new hub about this topic. So, maybe take a new approach to one of the other topics listed.
Love your avatar photo BTW
Thanks Denise! Edited this after I posted because I had my coffee and noticed your avatar! :-) Very nice. I wonder how many hubbers have butterfiles?
All the COOL Hubbers have butterflies! And Denise is right about the links, though because our topic is quite broad this week, I don't think you'll need to worry about it fitting in or not.
Okay, I am going to change my avatar/photo to a butterfly. I want to be cool, too!
You don't have to have a butterfly as your avatar to be cool, Marcy, you're already
!
Hey, I want to be cool too. Changing my Avatar to Butterfly to get noticed. Haha.
What a cool topic - I haven't played for a while, so I'll try one this week!
From Sci-Fi to Wi-Fi: How has automation changed our world?
Sorry, I don't have a butterfly icon - but I have some nice pictures of some for my next hub
Oh, you are so funny! RedElf hee hee. I'm glad you posted your hub. I haven't had an opportunity to do mine yet.
I absolutely love this, RedElf! What a cool overview!
I love this hub inspiration idea Simone, I will conjure up my best effort ever on this one, thanks for the cool idea! and words of inspiration.
Fantastic! Can't wait to see the result!
Here's my second for this topic - try the quiz... It's kinda silly, but fun
Technology: A love-hate relationship? Pet peeves about automation
Off to read Alan's hub!
Wow- two WTI Hubs! You rock, Enelle! Hehee, I love the fun quiz at the end.
I'll say she rocks! Who would have thunked it, hee hee. This Automation subject really motivated her, didn't it!
Off course Automation has changed the simplicity of life too as well as it brought too much facilities and comfort to life. Denise shared quite realistic one. It's the same that is happening to us all in life.
I had forgotten that the roots of automation went back so far (e.g. with the steam engine in 1765). Cool Hub!
Hi Simone, Interesting to see how far we have come. Here is my hub on this weeks inspiration, Automation
http://cybershelley.hubpages.com/hub/AU … -LIFE?done
I've never thought about it until I started writing but while technology has created so much for us at the same time it's becoming our downfall. Here's what I've written on automation:
http://jade0215.hubpages.com/hub/The-Use-of-Automation
Enjoyed the hub, Jade. Thanks for sharing
Whoah, JC Penny is going to have automated self-checkouts? Huh! Thanks for the Hub- I learned something new from it
This is my first time writing a hub on the weekly inspiration. It is also my 30th hub in less than 30 (29) days. Celebrations, yay! Anyway, I thought I would give it a go so I wrote about home automation and security systems. Here it is:
http://recentlyawakened.hubpages.com/hu … -Your-Life
Good points in your hub, RA CONGRATULATIONS on meeting your goal.
This is my first attempt at the Weekly topic inspiration. Critiques are welcome.
The Future of the Automated Home - It's Not What It Used to Be
Loved the hub-thanks for participating-you did great
A fantastic first attempt, Sherry Hewins! I think we can change the status of "attempt" to "success." Your formatting is lovely and the architects you've mentioned are super cool.
Here's my first attempt at Weekly Topic Inspiration. Just thought I'd share my experience on how much times have changed. ^_^ Thanks for reading!
http://rosyelsawali.hubpages.com/hub/Ge … ed-My-Life
silly question probably, but i have looked and can't find the answer. What's the deadline for the weekly topic? ie does it have to be submitted by Friday? Am a bit confused. Thanks
Hi Lamamaloli,
I think if's from Monday through Sunday. You still have a few hours left. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...
Meanwhile, I forgot to share my own contribution to the topic. It's How Automated Systems Effect Our Daily Lives:
http://eurocafeaulait.hubpages.com/hub/ … aily-Lives
thanks! might wait for the next topic then...
No..actually the topic ends on the following Monday at 12 noon PST I believe. So, if you are on the east coast you may still have some time. Hope you get one in.
No need to worry all that much about deadlines- the important thing is that you join in on the fun!
Awesome Hub, EuroCafeAuLait. I'm glad you made a WTI contribution this week!
I think my hub is going to be the last one posted... Better late than never, though. It's been a very interesting research for this topic for me. My topic is Conveyor Belts and how we use them in our lives.
http://denisehandlon.hubpages.com/hub/A … Lives?done
Hehee, not quite! This Hub rocks- I didn't know that conveyer belts went back so far! Love all the fun facts you've included in the overview.
Just in time, I hope. Thank goodness UK time is ahead of you guys in the US! I'd forgotten I really enjoyed writing the few hubs I've managed so far - going to use the Weekly Topic for more motivation from now on...
http://flyingvet.hubpages.com/hub/Autom … -the-pilot
Just in time indeed- and I'm so glad you joined in on this week's topic! This is an awesome Hub- so much interesting info!
Ok so when is the new topic being posted? Not that I'm impatient or anything!!
Soon! I'm getting it together right now.
Heh heh... I am watching and waiting for it, too... LOL...
Hey everyone! The new thread is up... and has a super exciting URL! http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/101010
(Hey, it's the little things, right?)
Anyhow, our topic this week is, in fact, about little thing- useful kitchen tools and gadgets! I hope you'll join in.
