Due to my sad need to be liked by everyone, I really want my Hub account to attract readers and followers. What is the best or most effective way to get people to follow you?

A good way to gain more followers is to read a variety of hubs that interest you and post your comments about the hubs.  If that hubbers topics are similar to those you write about people tend to check out your profile and hubs and will then follow you.  Good luck!

Awww, thanks for trying!  I'm now following you, welcome to HubPages, you have some great hubs already and I look forward to reading more!

Followers don't necessarily equal readers and they definitely don't equal money. Only 1% of your followers will read your stuff. If you want traffic you need to attract Google.

Ok, great, and I'm still working on getting approved by AdSense, but the narssicst in me says I should have more followers! What do followers equal in your estimation?

Also I've been trying to add the +1 from google + to my profile but I can't do it.  The tutorial says to edit profile and then add google + to the links, but I don't have a place for links in my edit profile section.  Any help there?

Followers = boasting value in my opinion. Little to nothing else. If you do want them, you'll find regularly hanging around in the forums or answering questions in the answer section will get you random followers. Lots of people just spam follow anyone they see, without any real interest in them.

You can't add any coding to Hubpages as you do not own the site. If you put your Google Plus account into the social media section of your profile though, it will automatically have the code to connect with your + account.

That's just it on my profile page the only options under social networks are Facebook and Pintrest and I see nowhere to add additional information/cites/links

Ah you're on the old profile. You'll need to upgrade to the new profile to get that option.

Visit my profile. At the top right should be an option to change.

Maybe I'm still not getting it. I followed the link from your page, thanks, and then followed the instructions for making the upgrade, but when I try to go back to my profile now it's still old version so I'm not sure how to make the change to the newer version permanent.

That's strange. It should automatically upgrade you. hmm

I seem to be attracting more traffic on Bing lately.

How does that work? I don't Bing.  Do you Bing to your Hubs?

Google, Yahoo and Bing are the three biggest search engines.

If you learn how to "rank" using good keywords and niche topics, those search engines will pick up your articles and start sending searchers to them.

Bing is pretty similar to Google.  The biggest difference is that it's owned by Microsoft and is pretty strict when it comes to what's in their sponsored ads.  Add everything WryLilt says and that about sums it up.
