Marijuana is Legal where I live - Can I write about it on HubPages..?  I've had a few educational Hubs on the topic Banned... Why?

Because the topic is not permitted on HubPages.

Here's our FAQ on the subject: http://hubpages.com/faq/#drugs

Though it might be legal where you live, it is not legal in other places, and we can't make special conditions for special areas. Hope that clears things up!  big_smile

        Not Permitted..?  Why..?

It is against Google's TOS and any Hubpages that are written about the subject could end in the cancellation of an AdSense account. This can have detrimental effects on the whole site. While many will agree that it shouldn't be a banned subject - the simple fact is that it is banned - and I don't see any writing site including HP changing that policy until it is a fully legal substance in all States.

I suggest you create your own website and then you'll be able to provide the information...

I Appreciate That, but Educational writing is Necessary... What is it, how does it work, how does it effect society.?  Learning about Topics is not illegal.. How else do we know - do we hide it from each other and Turn the other cheek.?  Is this a Grown Up forum..?

I understand that and you are right. But Hubpages is a commercial site and has to abide by Google's TOS.

So Curiously, Google's Ads don't have Meta Tag and Title and word detectors to place relevant ads next to sites?  Would a Lego set show next to a Marijuana site, or would a Vapor Pen or Concert Tickets..? Seems like Adsense is on top of things and Ad technology is Far advanced to solve this issue... Thanks 'C'  smile

Google don't care - if you have an article about this subject with a Google Ad on it then it is infringing their TOS and they can ban the Google AdSense account.

How is it Possible To Educate those who want Information..?  Last I knew, 5th graders were going over what the Different Kind of Narcotics do What in their Health Class...
What do you suggest is the best way to educate, share facts, and interesting news and developments about the topic that we could write about here on HubPages..?  or are You Just Saying "Sorry - You're Outta Luck..!"

Basically "Sorry you are out of luck" - HP have to abide by Google's TOS otherwise they won't have a business. If you want to educate then there are plenty of places where you can write and you won't be hampered. Complaining to HP won't change a thing - get Google to change their policies and then HP will adapt theirs accordingly - until then create a Wordpress blog.

    SimeyC is right.

Basically, Corporate America decides what is free speech in this country. Not the constitution.

    Take it up with Adsense.

But I would note sex, smoking and gambling are legal too and Adsense doesn't permit that either.  It is about maximizing profit, not the law.

Maximising profit for Adsense = not alienating any major advertisers (many of which are quite fundamentalist).

    American Economics 101

    Here's how it works... big_smile

    HubPages is terrified of Google.

Google is terrified of their advertisers.

The advertisers are terrified of the [snipped].

The [snipped] are terrified of their [snipped].
