So Ive had a couple more articles that aren't featured, with no reason offered. I was just gonna ignore it, thought maybe it was b/c they were of a romantic nature, but one of them has ads on it. I thought the whole purpose of them not being featured was that they were taken out of google search so that they couldn't be advertised on.

(The one I'm referring to is High Five and the other one that wont get featured is Dichotomy. All of my hubs are featured besides those two, so I don't think it's a matter of adding a video or punctuation issues.)

Nope - the only thing that happens is that they are not indexed - therefore do not appear on searches - however, this is not linked to the Ad program - thus if your hub suddenly got millions of viral views from FB, Pinterest or any other social media it still would benefit from Ads....

Ohhhh... so it can be advertised on, but no one will see it. lol... I get it, thanks!
Im not good at the pinterest stuff at all yet, and I don't share my hubs on FB at all.
Ok, I appreciate it, thanks SimeyC. I wish a pop up thing would happen when a hub wasn't featured. That way we would know what to work on to get them featured.

      Hey Beth37!

Hubs can lose Featured status for two reasons:
      1. They get very little traffic over a period of time
      2. They get low quality ratings

You can learn more about specific numbers and criteria here: hubpages.com/learningcenter/Featured-Hubs

In short, Hubs won't lose Featured status because they are of a romantic nature; it's more of an engagement/quality thing. If you would like those Hubs to become Featured again, consider stopping by this guide: hubpages.com/learningcenter/How-to-Improve-the-Quality-of-a-Hub

Then spruce them up a bit and you should be all set! big_smile

          Beth
I am having the same problem on 2 brand new hubs.  I have revises both hubs 2 or 3 times.  The first time I published it didn't show it was pending for review it was blank.

I revised again then it was pending review but went blank again.

I republished again and still not featured.  I am going to try one more time if the hub doesn't feature I will publish them to my blog.

Can one still submit their unfeatured hubs to search engines and have them indexed that way?

I would guess that Google would ignore the hub as it has a 'noindex' tag on it...

I think that they have a no-index tag on them which means the crawlers won't index it in the search engines even if you submit it.  It may be crawled but it won't be submitted until the tag is removed.

      Beth

I looked at  High Five, and it should be under poetry otherwise it will never feature because of word count.

I also seen a big blank area at the top of your hub.  That also could be stopping your hub from being featured.

Well the thing is, this happened first with the hub dichotomy. I published it first as romantic advice for men I think. It didn't publish, even though I used exactly the same writing style I have for all my hubs. So I republished it as a poem... still nothing... so I moved it back to advice for men. So I didn't bother to do it for High Five, I dont think. I just figured they didn't like the subject matter and left it unpublished without any indication why. Shouldn't they have at least had the spinny arrows while it was being considered? They never had that... just blank the whole time. If all my hubs weren't written with the same writing style, I would think I had done something wrong, but they are *all published with the exception of these two. It makes me think there is some kind of glitch or it is the subject matter.

        Uh, dear Tamron the Genius,
I took that space out at the top of that hub as you suggested and I now have spinny arrows. You're just all kinds of awesome! Thanks! Now if I could figure out what's up with Dichotomy, I would have all engines running. smile

        Thanks a million.

Well at least you got the spinning arrows.  I just looked at my account.  Out of the 2 that refused to become featured one is now featured now.

I added more content to the other hub which had 495 words.  Now has over 700 words its got the spinning arrows now.

The only complaint I have now it I can't tell where my add will be placed because I have so many pics.

I will checkout your other hub.  I am no expert!  I am just learning all of the HP changes.

      Hi Beth
I checked Dichotomy again honestly I didn't know what the word meant.  So I looked it up.  It says the meaning is division into two parts, kinds, etc.; subdivision into halves or pairs.

Your article doesn't really reflect on that and think about how many people would search for Dichotomy.  I would change my title.  Just a suggestion!

Your hub still reads like a poem.  If you want it to read like this is how a man should be with a women.

A title like "How a Man Should Treat a Women" or a title similar.

My writing style is different I would ask for help in the cretique forum.  So other hubbers can give you better suggestions than I can.

Beth37posted 10 years agoin reply to this

Well, the title 'Dichotomy' has to do with the fact that the woman is split... she wants to be held, and set free... etc. I tried it as a poem and no go. When I read it, I really see it as insight into how a woman thinks.

It's so interesting, with the High Five thing... I also have a hub about a ship that also had a space at the top and it published, but as soon as I took the space out of the High Five hub, the spinny arrows appeared. I don't know, it seems like if you hold your breath and tilt your head at just the right angle, they publish just fine. Maybe I forgot to blink twice. Thanks again for your help. smile

The only way your hub will stop showing ads is if you go to edit it and select NO in the ad settings. Your hub being idle doesn't get rid of ads. It just doesn't allow it to be searchable on Google or other search engines.
