Ads coming up on my profile and hubs

   I have a big concern about the ads coming up on my hubs and profile. They are almost pornographic. I make an effort to keep my writing respectful and suitable for all ages, and many pieces are spiritual in nature. The ads are for a dating site, it appears, and feature closeups of a woman's body, in various almost nude poses.       They ads are probably personalized by Google AdSense, i.e., they might reflect what you (or someone else using your IP address) personally have been searching for from Google Search.

      If you go to 'MyAccount', and click on 'Display Options' you will see Ads:
      Next to the Ads: is a box which probably says 'On'. Click the down arrow and you should see 'Off', click on Off and this should stop the ads from appearing on your Hubs.

      The ads that you see on the site are often related to cookies on your computer.
      In many cases, clearing cookies and your browser cache can result in you seeing different ads.

      prairieprincess, I am looking into this but it's hard to find the culprit without seeing the live ad myself. If you (or anyone) see it again, try and grab the clickthrough URL (the URL of the landing page if one were to click on this ad) because I can block that in our Google ad accounts.
      
      Have you been seeing this ad frequently?

      Nevermind! With some investigation and a lot of luck, I was able to find the advertiser responsible and block both the Advertiser URL (gtarcade.com) and Ad network (Wise Media). This advertiser is running on the AdSense network, so I recommend blocking them in your accounts, too.

   I barely pay attention to the ads that are on my Hubs. When I do notice them, it's usually because I find them funny.
   
   For example, I used to get a lot of ads for Christian dating services on my Hubs, which I always found rather funny since I write almost exclusively about horror films and heavy metal music.
   
   ...maybe they were trying to tell me that I needed to get right with God and give up such heathen activities?

   All ads are geotargeted and rely heavily on your previous search history and websites visited.  So keep of them filthy pages lol

   What really gets me is that I wrote about my phobia of statues...and yes, they place ads ABOUT statues...alongside my hub!  So my readers who share my phobia...are subjected to what they fear the most!

      Those are how ads sell. They see keywords and place ads for those keywords. I do not always agree with ads nor like them all either but there is not much that we can do.
      There are some ads which have a button in the top right that says 'AdChoices'. It seems that you may opt out of certain ads. I am not sure how this works but it looks like it has something to do with cookies.

         This particular ad is some kind of virtual sexually driven video game. Both of my kids play video games on my comp., but I am always with them, there is nothing inappropriate. Using kids video games to slide porn in, is a bit heinous in my opinion.

            I think that I have noticed that ad. I have not paid attention to it since I am reading the Hubs - especially since I do not play video games.
            I agree with using kids games for that. I will keep an eye open and if I see it again maybe someting can be done.

                  Maybe I am thinking of a different ad. I said that I did not pay any attention to it but the one which I saw was in the sidebars and sort of brownish.

   The company is called "League of Angels" and I made a screen capture too but see that it has already been mentioned.  I found the ad very inappropriate and shocking.  I'm the only one that uses my computer and I don't go to "those" kinds of sites.  I had the same ad as prairie princess with women undressing and showering and then ending with a bosom shot.

      This was on my Christmas hub about putting up Christmas lights so I can't imagine it has anything to do with the hub.

      Probably true.  So I confess I don't fully understand all of this and how it works.  Does hubpages allow or disallow certain ads?   I see that someone above says you can block it but that won't work all the time.   Do I want to block it?   It offends me but does it offend my readers?  I don't know.

         One of the HPs staff was kind enough to post a way to make sure your pc could block this, but that doesn't really help your readers does it?
         
         I agree, this ad, b/c it was moving and realistic really was quite shocking. I wasn't aware of it most the time, with my kids sitting right next to me, then I look down and there's a half naked girl feeling herself up. I was like, "Hey!" Not really playing fair.

         Well, there are lots of ads like this all over the internet. Do you not read articles that you are interested in just because they have such a "shocking" ad on them? And why is it shocking, anyway? It's no different from TV ads for Victoria's Secret or for perfumes. Do those shock and offend you too?

      That is probably the idea, to get most men and boys hooked - if they are interested. I saw the ad for 'League of Angels' (with a different picture) when I checked the weather online. I clicked the 'X' and I am going to see if it is still there.

            I keep trying to find easier ways to help them/us.
            I will keep checking The Weather Channel (I do anyway to check the weather) to see if that ad is there.

    Thank you for your help, Marina. And I do have inappropriate ads blocked on my google adsense, but I suspect these ads ran through HP, and not my adsense account. And I definitely do not go on these kinds of sites, myself. :0

       Ads will still show up even if you're not approved by Adsense. But you won't make any money off the ads.
