It is a complete mystery. It has been busted for about 6 months.
Don't know about much. Just a piece of advice. Never ever edit a Hub. It surely decreases the score a lot. I just changed the summary of my hub. And it went down 10 points.
Part of how I have kept my scores and earnings up is by editing my Hubs. Don't edit your Hubs badly.
I find the best way to improve your hub score is to not worry so much about your Hubscore.
Too soon to worry, it will fluctuate up and down, more down than up, until you have a good number of hubs. It takes time, hard work, editing, and promoting your hubs before your hubber score begins to stabilize. From my own experience, at least 25 hubs and 9 to 12 months of hubbing. And even then, for no apparent reason, it may still go down, but will eventually come back up. Be patient, keep writing quality hubs.

Would you delete your low scoring non performing Hubs to increase your overall HubScore?

I wish there was a way to turn it off. It goes up and down without reason, and it can be very distressing.
