urls vs title

I wish the url were not cast in stone as soon as the title is typed into the title capsule. Sometimes before I even move on to the next page, I realize I have made a mistake and it is too late to change it.

I CAN change the title.  My question how much weight does the url have vs. the title in searches? How much weight do the capsule sub-titles have?

If I don't like the url, the only way to change it is to delete the hub and start over, losing any backlinks, views, and comments accumulated.  Not a good move.  I wish HP would change it so that the url is not cast in stone until the hub is published.  That would give me the opportunity to change my title anytime prior to publishing.

Unless the URL is absolutely unlike anything you are writing about, don't worry about it.  I have many hubs whose URLs have stayed the same but the titles have changed significantly.  Never have had a problem, although I do think it is better to have them match as closely as possible.

      Hi Catherine,

The reason we do it this way is that editing the URL would cause you to lose all your backlinks and ranking and cause your Hub to start over with traffic either way (whether you changed one letter, one word, or the entire URL). Once established, altering the URL puts your Hub in jeopardy. As Timetraveler mentioned, as long as the URL is not about something completely different from the subject of your Hub, it's probably not hurting you.

And yet, this is what the Editor's Choice designation does, isn't it?  It changes the URL.

Good point Writes Fox. I thought that the old url still worked tho; it was just redirected to the new url.  You don't lose your backlinks, do you? I'm hoping the people who understand SEO can answer these questions,.

If you change it yourself you don't have the ability to do any redirecting like HP does.

Yes, I understand that and so I would never change a url.  I only wanted to point out that getting EC (and consequently, a new url)  doesn't hurt your backlinks.

I always have an "edit" where the url is, before I publish. And, can have a differently worded title.

So I can edit the url before publishing? This is what I want to do. I've never seen this,  I will have to look for it.  I would NEVERedit after I click publish.

Yupperz, you'll see it the next time you start a new hub.

Things can be right there, and we just don't see them.

I had a realization on another site I write for just the other day. I'd be embarrassed to say what it was that I kept over looking. But, I am sure happy I discovered the option that will make my life easier.

But the edit option is there only for some time. If you once click the start button and enter into the editing mode of the hub, it disappears, as I have witnessed. I also feel this as a problem sometimes. But, I see, it will not affect when the subject is same. You can see some of my titles and urls differ.

Do I ever buy off The Internet savvy. Not that much  yes I do 20% of the time.  I would have bought more because my income was not over the spending range.    Do I use the Internet to go to School or get money from the Checking or Saving account. No way like I said I am in a limited spending range lady. And I believe everybody know how I feel?
