I wish the url were not cast in stone as soon as the title is typed into the title capsule. Sometimes before I even move on to the next page, I realize I have made a mistake and it is too late to change it.
I CAN change the title. My question how much weight does the url have vs. the title in searches? How much weight do the capsule sub-titles have?
If I don't like the url, the only way to change it is to delete the hub and start over, losing any backlinks, views, and comments accumulated. Not a good move. I wish HP would change it so that the url is not cast in stone until the hub is published. That would give me the opportunity to change my title anytime prior to publishing.
Unless the URL is absolutely unlike anything you are writing about, don't worry about it. I have many hubs whose URLs have stayed the same but the titles have changed significantly. Never have had a problem, although I do think it is better to have them match as closely as possible.
Hi Catherine,
The reason we do it this way is that editing the URL would cause you to lose all your backlinks and ranking and cause your Hub to start over with traffic either way (whether you changed one letter, one word, or the entire URL). Once established, altering the URL puts your Hub in jeopardy. As Timetraveler mentioned, as long as the URL is not about something completely different from the subject of your Hub, it's probably not hurting you.
And yet, this is what the Editor's Choice designation does, isn't it? It changes the URL.
Good point Writes Fox. I thought that the old url still worked tho; it was just redirected to the new url. You don't lose your backlinks, do you? I'm hoping the people who understand SEO can answer these questions,.
If you change it yourself you don't have the ability to do any redirecting like HP does.
Yes, I understand that and so I would never change a url. I only wanted to point out that getting EC (and consequently, a new url) doesn't hurt your backlinks.
I always have an "edit" where the url is, before I publish. And, can have a differently worded title.
So I can edit the url before publishing? This is what I want to do. I've never seen this, I will have to look for it. I would NEVERedit after I click publish.
Yupperz, you'll see it the next time you start a new hub.
Right in front of my eyes. I am so unobservant. I could have used that so many times. Thanks colorfulone.
Things can be right there, and we just don't see them.
I had a realization on another site I write for just the other day. I'd be embarrassed to say what it was that I kept over looking. But, I am sure happy I discovered the option that will make my life easier.
But the edit option is there only for some time. If you once click the start button and enter into the editing mode of the hub, it disappears, as I have witnessed. I also feel this as a problem sometimes. But, I see, it will not affect when the subject is same. You can see some of my titles and urls differ.
I never had trouble redirecting . Yes attention to HP would be a good idea. I have two question for HP when I could have saved a couple bucks. Thank You Judy Payne
In just a minute I am going to call HP about helping me with my printer .To my understanding maybe I should take a course in Technology better known name Computers? Judy Walker
How in the world do Computer Companies make so much money How much do they really make. Wow! theirs a great amount kids that know a huge amount about Computers How they learn it at School. Don't under estimate kids because their so smart, aren't they?
Do I ever buy off The Internet savvy. Not that much yes I do 20% of the time. I would have bought more because my income was not over the spending range. Do I use the Internet to go to School or get money from the Checking or Saving account. No way like I said I am in a limited spending range lady. And I believe everybody know how I feel?
Judy, are you in high school? Is that where you go to school?
I think JudyPanye means HP as in Hewlett Packard. Perhaps she doesn't realize she is on the wrong website.i
Judy, I think you are posting to the wrong website. Please don't post things that are off topic. This discussion is about urls and titles. We have ben sharing some good information and I would hate for people to drop out of the discussion because of distractions. Thanks.

When I first started writing at HubPages I was under the impression that one should make the url and the first title of their hub the same.So my question now is: When trying to write the url for maximum traffic, how much should you really deviate on the main title? Or does it even matter if the key...

After changing the title of the hub, the URL remains the same. Does it affect the existing traffic or the position on Google ? How often the title could be changed ? Is it advisable or not ?

Hey Hubbers,I mean VETERAN Hubs, Internet techies?Recently I was having a conversation with another hubber about a hub that they just produced.I saw the hub when it was published and noticed a problem in the title of the hub and then proceeded to the hub, to check if the same mistake was made in...

When you edit your hub title and content with the intention of boosting traffic of a dozing hub, should you also edit the url? It has the old title. What is being re-indexed - the new hub title or the url? If it's the same url, your editing is for naught, correct? Or am I confused (as usual)?

I know we can completely change our hub titles but I wondered if the first title we used is still ours or any there after for that matter even though we changed it?

Can I change the title of my hub as I think it would be better with a different title but still including the existing words? If so, how do I change it as I don't see an option to save it?Thanks.
