Why does my hubscore and hubberscore keep falling?

There has been a week now during which my hubberscore and hubscore fall with one point each day. I have done everything I could and everything Hubpages advised me to do and it became worse: my scores keep falling. I have published two new hubs and no improvement. What can I do? I am at my worst these days hmm

I think you write good articles on good subject matter. I saw some grammatical errors on some of your articles, which is understandable because you speak another language in addition to English; I only know one language, and it's hard enough for me to keep up with one language, so it's amazing to me when someone can actually speak more than one language, it's a good skill.

At any rate, you probably can find a good proof reader that can fix some of those grammatical errors and it would probably bring your Hub and Hubber scores up. I just browsed Fiverr and saw they have some pretty good proof readers. I noticed one named Robinoo who has a lot of good reviews, and she has a video on there showing she has very good command of English. If you can afford it, I'd say it'd be worth it to try using a proof reader, even if you can only pay for one once or so a month.

I looked at your "30 Designers secret tips: Wonderful Home Decoration" hub and the images are copyrighted with no credits given at all, and most of the text is taken from other sites and used as quotes.   sad

But, I see you have over 1 million views in 13 months.  Hmm!

You are using copyrighted pictures, and no attrition to some of them. I understand your difficulties in the English language, as it is not my mother tongue, too. But, you need to find a good proofreader  to fine tune your hubs. Nonetheless, the 1million + views is admirable!

    Hi,

First of all, it is important that you write high quality articles for you to get a higher hub score as well as hubber's score. Next, for every image that you have used from different sources, please make sure to include credits because it is copyrighted and you have to be very careful. Then, try to change the format of your articles or your hub, try to put a high quality image first before your introduction and don't just take text from other sites, you have to be original. Lastly, proofread your articles before you post. I'm sure you can still get your scores high, just keep working on it.

Having a 1 million views is not shabby though, congratulations!

Thank you very much to all of you! I think I will go with proofreading!
Another thing: I use photos that I find interesting and when it is possible I credit them. The thing is I can not always find the author :S Anyway, if I upload my photos from my pc [so I have saved them] how can Hubpages detect they are copyrighted? Or should I better post them using the URL option?

That you cannot find the author does NOT mean they are free for the taking, and neither does being interesting.  And neither does HP not being able to detect that they are not your own copyright - it's theft whether detected or not.  Even giving a link back to the original, when you do not have specific permission to use copyrighted material, does not relieve the onus of theft.

I understand your point. I was just asking how does it detect them?

There are a number of free tools that will identify other web sites on which the same or a very similar image appears, making it easy in many cases to find the original creator of the image.

In addition to the above, a number of the images you use have copyright information/watermarks embedded in them. LOL!

There is not point just grabbing pictures you like and just hoping you can use it.  Search for pictures to use on sites the list only pictures that are public domain or have a sharing license, e.g. flikr, foter, wikimedia, morguefile

Well, now that I am thinking about it: The hub may come out as too promotional, because we should put 3 or more photos in our hubs right?
Another thing: most of the artist who put their work online are aware of the fact that their photos will be used for other's purposes. Those photographers who do not want these to happen, are linked with sites in which you must buy the photo in order to use it. So, what's the point of giving credit? They are not asking for it.

Image attribution doesn't really affect scores: http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/129826#post2722925

Yeah, I was going to say that. Image attribution is not really relevant to the original question.

HubPages is gracious about stolen photos without proper credit. .
I have not words to make a point. So! --  No argument.
(I would give my post a thumbs down.)

A while ago I wrote a Hub about this issue, and included quite a lot of factors that influences your scores.

    1. Ever tried the HubTree? Select topics that contain not so much Hubs. This makes your own Hub look better. Imagine you publish your Hub among hundreds of other Hubs of great Hubbers.
    2. Try to check all the boxes when you publish a Hub (picture below)
    3. Make no spelling errors and try to perfect your grammar. Keep reading your own stuff and try to perfect it.
    4. More Hubs cranks up your Hubber score
    5. You seem to have an imbalanced followers/following rate. This appears to lower the scores. Keeping it around 1:1 makes life much easier, otherwise you have to compensate a kind of penalty in other ways.
    6. Getting more followers increases your scores, and increases feedback. Feedback is important.
    7. Try to share your Hubs on Twitter, etc.
    8. The more traffic the higher the scores. No matter what HP tells about this. It stays an important factor. It's all in the math.
    9. It might be that HubPages thinks your topics are not so interesting.
    10. Taking part in forums is just a waste of time when it comes to Hubber scores big_smile

More Hubs cranks up your Hubber score,, what exactly do you mean by this?

        1. profile image0
Engeltaposted 9 years agoin reply to this

The one with the traffic thing: for me it does not work like that. I have hubs which get like 100 views per day [according to hubpages statistics] and yet they have like 47 score lets say. While another which gets like 0-20 views per day, has a score of 65 or at least 58

Writing more Hubs increases your Hubber score, but of course only when they are of a high quality.

  7. Buildreps profile image83
    Buildrepsposted 9 years ago

Low quality Hubs that get lots of traffic draw your Hubber score down. Put your attention on the Hubs that get the most traffic. Make sure these Hubs are perfect!

Thank you smile  I am getting back at them now and making the necessary changes. One more question: in the HubTree there are categories which are gray, can't click them. They do have a certain number of hubs though. Why is this? Is it good to put your hub under those categories or not?

      1. Buildreps profile image83
Buildrepsposted 9 years agoin reply to this

When a topic has less than 20 items the topic is unclickable. I don't know why, it's a choice of HP. There are more than 400 topics with 0 Hubs. You can try to put a new high quality Hub in it. (I mean with 'try', because these topics might not be your 'thing')
