For some reason I can't figure out how to get an rss feed for certain keywords from my hubs. I know it is most likely a simple thing I am missing, but would appreciate a little advice please.
http://hubpages.com/author/USERNAME/TAG/latest?rss
Replace USERNAME with your username, and TAG with your tag. If there are spaces in your username or in the tag phase, use the + symbol instead.
This shows you how dumb I am. I've been wondering for a while, what the hell is a RSS feed?
http://hubpages.com/author/cindyvine/latest/?rss is the link to your rss feed. It is your latest hubs. You can copy and paste the link into an rss capsule on your hubs and it will link up to 8 of your hubs on that hub.
You can find the link on your profile page and right click it and copy shortcut then just paste into the rss capsule.
Maybe it was answered well enough for you...but the previous answers seemed to focus on telling you how to capture your own rss feed for offsite promotion.
maybe you were wondering how and why to use them on your own hubs?
RSS = real Simple Syndication
Anytime you see that little chiclet with the orange button
well that symbolizes a rss feed, people use these in comjunction with feed readers (outlook, igoogle, myyahoo etc) to collect streams of posts from there favorite blogs/sites, so they can read new info without having to go to those pages all teh time.
It also a great tool to promote a page that you develop.
For you to use teh rss feeds in your own hubs - you could simply use some words from your title or theme and the term rss in google
google search "pet dishes rss"
look at the results, find a page with relative info and look for that orange button
right click "copy link location"
paste that link into your rss capsule in hubpages
This is supposed to make your page seem updated because the feed will always update on its own (but there is some confusion on my part about whether google can read a XHTML feed?)
either way its a good way to keep some engaging and changing content on your hub
im sure ive seen some better explanations right here on hubpages
And where does the rss capsule go, what does it do with it?
You can put it on any of the hubs you want. I generally put mine just above the comment capsule. Some put them below their comment capsule. You can put the rss feed on your blog, any website you own, etc. . .
It gives quick links to your latest hubs. Makes it easy for your readers to go to another hub of yours to read. You can also link other hubbers rss feeds to your hubs if you want.
I'm having problems too:) I tried this and it won't work. I put this in one of my rss capsules http://hubpages.com/author/WrinkleExperts/latest/?rss and it said it there was no rss for that. Am I doing it right? Also where on the profile page is the rss? Please help I really want to do this for my hubs and have been trying to figure out how.
It's because there's a space in your username. You need to add a + where the space usually is, as I said above
thank you thank you thank you now I understand:)
I'm one of the ones who is dumber than dirt on this, I still have no clue on this. Mine says something about a code error?
Thank you so much for giving of your time to help us:) You guys are awesome:)
I agree you are awesome about helping us but I'm still lost here in senior land of operator problems. I still get a code error message. I am clearly most likely doing something wrong. Can anyone do what I do with teaching my mom on hubs from over a 1000 miles away -- step by step, as in:
Go to xxxxx
Click on xxxxx
Go to the box and xxxxx
I can write all day, but some of the most obvious things still escape me.
Sure, Jerilee:
Go to your profile.
Click on the link "Subscribe to Jerilee Wei's RSS feed" under your profile picture.
The URL in the navigation bar of your browser is the URL of your RSS feed. If you want it to be latest hubs instead of hot hubs, simply change "hot" to "latest."
Does that help?
Perhaps if you paste what you THINK is your RSS feed, as Wrinkle Experts did, I can point out what's going wrong.
Seems simple but it goes to an immediate this feed contains code errors?
When you paste it into the rss capsule, click preview capsule and let it work until it gets it right. Also, when you copy your rss link, make sure there are no blank spaces copied at the end of the link.
Seems to be working in Firefox, but not in IE, for some reason. Paul's looking at it. Hold tight.
EDIT: Okay, Paul thinks it's that there are some funny characters in one of your hub summaries or images, because it's not happening on other people's feeds. He's going to work on it for you, but it probably won't be fixed today.
Okay, so if I want to link my hubs to my blogs, then all I do is cut and paste the url I get when I click on subscribe to rss feed? I can put this same url on my website and on Twitter?
Thanks Maddie! You all are so helpful it's one of the many reasons I love hubpages.
Thanks for the suggestions, I have been using the link capsule and a lot of copy and paste, boy was I doing it the hard way!
Hate to sound like a broken record but still getting
This does not appear to be a valid RSS feed.
No hurry but do get people emailing me to ask why they can't subscribe.

I'm trying to understand RSS feeds. I think the capsule is a reader that aggreates feeds from other websites, but I'm not sure

I really can't point any of you to the many discussions there were about whether RSS feeds that display our own Hubs in a specific Hub of ours are a violation of the HP rules or not.I read info that the "best", "latest", and "hot" categories were not appropriate to add...
