Can someone from HubPages explain the search bar?

What is the search engine behind the HubPages search bar on the top of the page?
It seems to return results from the web and also from hubpages hubs, forums and questions...
I am curious as to what indexing it is using and how often it is updated.
It seems to exhibit some odd behavior when I use it.
    Why is this so?
It seems to me the search engine is key to finding relevant content here on HP and on the web.
Why are these issues not being addressed?

HubPages uses Google Custom Search for their search box.

Thanks for the info. Another word, it is google's fault for the buggy results.

Jack Lee, I gave you a more detailed explanation in your other forum thread:

    How to put this...

Search Bar crap since they changed it...

    Finding profile names, ok.

    Forum strings. Total crap.
