The review would be about one app specifically but would like to put the referral link in there in case I do get people to sign up.
If you are referring readers to Hubpages =yes you can add a referral link. If you are sending people off of Hubpages -no you cannot. That would be self promotion and will get your article flagged.
Galleryofgrace, you've fallen for a myth. It's fake news.
It's not true that HubPages dislikes links. HubPages loves links if they are relevant to the main topic of the Hub, and helpful to the reader. Just take a look at the articles on HealDove and notice how many links they have.
People think HubPages dislikes links because they've had a few links snipped, but those links probably didn't meet the above criteria.
Adding an affiliate link is not self-promotion. Self-promotion is when you add a link to your own website or to your own business.
If you write it as a genuine, unbiased review, pointing out the pro's and con's (and preferably comparing it with some alternatives) then yes, you should be able to include the referral link.

Trying to see if I understand this correctly. The trackers only work from outside of HP, correct? So if I have a new affiliate tracker on my profile page or in a hub, it's worthless to me, right? And if I link from one...

Like referrals.1. Why insert an _referralcode into the URL. Couldn't you come up with a dynamic insertion solution? If an insertion was required, what's wrong with appending it at the end of the URL as in ?referrer=xyz?...
