i don't disagree. personally, I don't think rebooting it is the way to go, as the 3rd movie was bad, but it wasn't like so bad that they have to reboot it like "batman and robin" was to batman.
personally, i do agree with you about that, venom should have been a stand alone villain, but the problem is that raimi reminds me too much of larry brown, nba coach of the charlotte bobcats. both very good at what they do but they're biggest strength happens to be their biggest flaw. they tend to put a lot of heart and passion into their work, and it shows. like when the brawl between the pacers and detroit fans broke out a few years back, it left brown distraught and distracted as his heart wasn't into coaching there anymore after that. i would like to believe if that brawl never would've happened, then he would've stayed in detroit. now granted these are different professions, but im just using this as example. raimi is alot like brown as he even admits in interviews he directs with a lot of passion and heart. that's why when marvel/sony kept pressuring him to put in venom, he came up with a mediocre storyline to introduce him. if you stop to look at the other villains like dock ock, green goblin, sandman, and new goblin, they're origins were done respectively as well as their demises. where as venom, you can flat out tell raimi didn't even try to tell his story right as that was his way of acting out his emotions through the movie. not saying that i dislike the guy, but im just stating the obvious about him.
i for one love raimi take on spider-man, and I thought toby was perfectly casted too. however, if they do reboot it, all I can say is i hope it works. plus, who knows, maybe this means sony will cancel that venom movie spinoff film they had in the works now, as i would much rather see him done right as a villain first. so who knows, maybe with this reboot we'll finally see a spiderman and venom matchup the way it was meant to be.
