    I would like to know what is a Google Page Rank?

    When hubs are written about back linking and getting traffic,  other hubbers refer to different sites as a PR 5 Or a PR 7. I often find that confusing. I would like to know what the numbers mean and the significance of these numbers.

    Pagerank 5, PR5, does NOT mean the 5th result as seen on Google results page, AKA the SERP.

    Pagerank is based upon an logarithmic scale from 1-10 that ranks a web page's importance. A PR1 is typically rather new, unauthoritative and unimportant. A PR10 is a very major, highly authoritative, best in the world web site like Google! Only about 150 web sites worldwide hold a PR10 ranking out of billions and billions of sites.

    The name Pagerank has nothing at all to do with a web page, search engine page or even a blog and everything to do with one of Google's cofounders, Larry Page, which is where the name is derived from.

    Pagerank is a complex algorithm that Google uses to rank all the pages that have been indexed by their servers. I higher pagerank simply means that that a webpage is more likely to appear in the SERPs for certain keywords. Pagerank mainly depends on the amount of quality backlinks pointing to a webpage and also the quality of backlinks pointing to webpages that point to a certain webpage.
