I recently created a new hub about PageRank and after I published it I remembered that it should be PageRank instead of the Page Rank that I used in my URL. I really felt like crying as it is a long hub and would be a lot of work to move to a new hub.
But then to make the issues more confusing and interesting I later noticed that even Google seems to be confused as to which is the right spelling. BTW for those who don't know Google says "Did you mean..." when it believes you have misspelled a word.
Compare and contrast these two different Google searches and the "Did you mean..." response Google gives for each.

#2 What Is Google Page Rank = Did you mean: What Is Google Pagerank
#1 Both versions of the "Google PageRank Tool" query give very similar page one results, but in a different ranking order. Number of competing web sites is 4.8M & 4.6M for correctly spelled and misspelled PR word respectively.
#2 Both versions of the "What Is Google Page Rank" query also gives similar page one results. Number of competing sites is 43.1M & 59.3M for correctly spelled and misspelled PR words respectively.
If any version showed drastically different results and/or much lower competing number of web sites it would become obvious which is the proper version. For "What Is Google Page Rank" the wrong spelling actually has more competing web sites!
I'm thinking that due to widespread usage of both versions this is causing Google to at least partially treat the two versions as synonyms. But with slightly different results returned, at least on page one of Google. I have never seen Google contradict itself for spellings depending on the context used.
I'm really only concerned with "What Is Google PageRank" since this is what my hub is about. Which version do you think is right? Do you think these subtle differences will impact my Google rankings since my URL uses the version Google thinks is wrong in the URL? Throughout the rest of my hub I only use the spelling it says is right. It is possible I may get traffic from both versions as I have used both counting the URL usage. This would be sweet.
Internet, or should I say internet, grammar is an evolving thing (as is all grammar). I read an article about the capital "I" thing where certain companies (big ones, I don't recall who, but it was like Apple and The New York Times etc. kind of entities) were all debating the whole Internet spellings. Internet vs internet, Web page vs. webpage, Web site vs website... and, by implication, your problem. (I find it interesting that you didn't include a hyphenated option. I love the Internet. Tech-geeks are giving English geeks colon spasms.)
I can't give you an answer on this specifically, but I can tell you what I know, and am reasonably qualified to speak about, regarding language and grammar. The rules change, are in constant flux in certain grammatical battle zones, and there is nobody in a position of "authority" to declare what the "laws" are of grammar. Every once in a while some blowhard or another writes a book and the grammatical sheep in education buy what the publishers pimp and something becomes canon for a while, but then, a few years or decades later, people look up, raise their necks bent beneath the yoke of arbitrary grammatical decrees and say, "Huh? Who the hell made you boss?" and then that word or punctation rule goes the way of every other one that ever came before it ever.
The power-players in the industry set the trends (as you recognize by having looked around), but there are no rules. You may follow the industry trends, or contribute to the industry rebels, adding weight to their point of view.
I did not think of it in the terms you pointed out. Your exactly right though. These things do evolve and change as any language does, especially words related to the internet.
While no one may be a real authority that can dictate what is right or wrong, Google currently does have this power, at least on their own search engine. Since 90% of my traffic comes from the Big G I must be concerned with how even subtle differences play out. I'm hoping I'm worrying about something here that will have very little impact. Time will tell.
What type of magic powers do you have that makes either term seem like its anything that you can publish and expect to ever see the light of day?
Are you planning on getting traffic from someplace other than google?
If your implying that the keyword phrase is too competitive for me to compete on, your probably right. I've only barely broke into the top 100 on Google in the first day which is of course worthless. I take that back, not even top 100 tonight. Normally I'm top 30 or top 10 in short order for easier keyword phrases.
I feel I have a great chance of hitting top ten on Yahoo since my SEO methods often work very well there. But since Google sends me 90% of my traffic, Google is all that really matters to me. Yahoo and Bing are so insignificant imo to not even be on my radar. I just checked I'm #6 or #7, depending on which PR spelling used, on Yahoo, but who cares. I sure don't.
I fully expect it to take a year or more to have a chance at top ten on Google, if ever... I wish I had some magical powers. I do rank highly on page one for a couple of 2 word keyword phrases, and a worthless 1 word keyword, on Google from my own web site so I know I can do it sometimes with a bit of luck, hard work and time.
Thats the kind of term that SEO professionals use, so its hard to imagine breaking through the preexisting stuff that is years old and has Pr 5-7
when I look, the least backlinks of any site shown is "400" ..to bad thats from googles own webmaster support forum!

Then this keyword phrase is probably more work than what its worth even though the AdSense payout is pretty good.
I sure didn't do any keyword research or check up on the competition beforehand, sometimes I write and let the chips fall where they may.
eh, you never know! you could bust on through or get a lot of backlinks based on your newer view of the term.
PageRank is being phased out and is supposedly barely part of the algo, if you mention newer info like that- the long tails may lead to you
I do mention later on in the hub how PR is much less significant than it used to be, how Google has recently tried to get webmaster to not focus on it so much like how they recently removed PR from Webmaster Tools.
Funny how Traffic Travis says my keyword phrase is "Relatively Easy" to rank well for. TT fails this time. Of course it's only a rough guide I suppose.
Seems I'm breaking through in less than a week! #14 on Google for "What Is Google PageRank" which is the version I decided to focus my efforts on. And #36 for "What Is Google Page Rank?" Dropped down to #10 on Yahoo for both version. Who cares as here comes the Google traffic.
A top ten in the near future is looking to be more likely if it survives past the newness bonus thing. Maybe I do have a bit of magic???
I did backlink this hub more than any other I have published after reading your competition stats sunforged. A bit more may be needed for that final push on up to the top.

I would like to know what is a Google Page Rank?When hubs are written about back linking and getting traffic, other hubbers refer to different sites as a PR 5 Or a PR 7. I often find that confusing. I would like to know what the numbers mean and the significance of these numbers.

I think a Google Page rank update happened today. I spend 15-18 hours working on the internet. A few minutes ago I noticed that one of my domains have gone from PR0 to PR2. I checked all my major sites and found changes in most of them. Some moved up on PR and some lost.

Why do Hubpage accounts with high scores have very low Google page rank?I have been checking page rank for certain Hubpages users who have high HP scores i.e. over 90. Google seems to give many of them a very low page rank. Page rank is an indicative metric of web authority according to Google....
