Is it true you can actually make money from hubpages, and if so how does this work.?
more in comparison to what?...well hubpages have high page rank and so getting organic visit is one of big advantage of hubpages..
Before you sign up for any affiliate accounts, you need several dozen Hubs that are full of original, written content. Adding pictures, videos and relevant resource links is extremely helpful.

Once those are showing some traffic and reader interaction, then apply for the affiliate programs as HubPages describes, http://hubpages.com/faq/#royalties
Without good web pages, most of the affiliate programs will reject your application, something BeBrown overlooked with their answer.
