    Having backlinks certainly helps with your ranking, in particular if the links are genuine and from other high ranking websites. I don't think you can have too many links to a page but you have have too many links that appear at once. If you keep getting thousands of links per day, that is not very natural. When links appear gradually and in a natural way, you can have a lot of links to a particular hub easily.

    Hubpages back links are really helpful for improving the pagerank. Try to build backlinks from different sources so that it improves the authority of your site.
