There is no word limit for your hub. The greater the better. And if you are targetting to get search engine traffic to your hub then maintain a decent keyword density.
For 500 word hub use your keywords 3-5 time in it. For 800 words 6-7 times.
Please don't forget to add keyword in title of your hub.
It depends on what your writing about,
people usually get distracted after 5 minutes which is usually about 300 words.
Personally I would say make it as long as you need to, in order to get your message across.

what factors help you decide if a hub is too long? I know different styles of hubs based on topics and what not help determine how long it is going to be. I worry about what is to many words though.
