   Why is it that when I log in to my Google adsense account, it says that it is still being reviewed
   
   -highlighted in red. But now they e-mailed me with Adsense Newbie Guide and welcoming me to adsense.  When I signed in again, it is still being reviewed. So, what gives?

   It is sometimes very difficult to know what they are up to. Just some things that come to mind since it seems, per your statements, you are new:
   
   Are there any instructions anywhere in your emails that state you need to click on anything to confirm something? (Double-check your SPAM folder too.)
   
   Did they state they are sending you anything in the mail?
   
   Are you located in a country that you can have adsense in?
   
   Did they send you a text message that you need to confirm with a code or anything?
   
   Are you expecting an automated phone call from them with a code to confirm anything?
   
   Were you ever banned from it in the past? (If they ever ban you, they ban you for life.)
   
   Also keep in mind that those welcome-type emails are auto-generated by email auto-responders that are set to send at a specified time and aren't necessarily linked to your account status.
   
   I have read a lot with those who did nothing wrong and were banned, but I am still using it with the hopes that nothing will happen. So far so good and I'll continue to be careful. Best of luck!

   Loren, It does take a while for a Google adsense account to be reviewed. 
   
   According to the Google Website:
   
   Once you've submitted your AdSense application and verified your email address, it typically takes 2-3 days for our specialists to complete the review. However, depending on the volume of applications we receive, it may take a week or longer.
   
   As soon as we've reviewed your application, we'll send you an email with details on your application status.

   When I published 2 hubs, I applied and was rejected because of insufficiency of content. I wrote more hubs and resubmitted. I wasn't rejected this time and the status is being reviewed. Then I received the said newbie guide email now. They said that for me to get started, I have to sign in and create an ad code for my pages. But when I signed in, there it was still highlighted in red, that it is still being reviewed.

   Maybe it would take a little time for a full 'sync'. Give it a day or two and if still the same, drop Adsense guys a short email to confirm
   
   Of course, the above is considered when you are approved or just review. Just review means not yet approved
