You might concider a little used reaction called patience. Give people time to get to know you. Though this is my personal reaction, but I consider my fans my friends. It's not the number of fans I have that is important, it's the quality. Just like the quality of hubs is more important that the quantity.
But that's just me, a lone voice among thousands.
Okay I got me a fan,..Woo Hoo,...Guess I'll start working on some friendships now,..LOL.
