I've only been here a month but yes, the summary is important. It will help the hub score a bit and it is what others see along with your title. Otherwise, a few excerpts from the beginning of your hub show. Often, this may not summarize what your hub is about. I'm not the law here but personally, I like the way my hubs appear more and like to see them on hubs I'm considering to read. Welcome to Hubpages!

A summary is very important.  It is your "hook" to get people to want to read your article.  It also improves the score a bit and in addition many search engines use the content of your summary for their descriptions.  You will find your hub traffic increases when you use a good summary!

There so much to think of before sharing an article here, I shall be spending some time on summaries from now on!  Many thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

A Hub Summary is not only important, it is mandatory. If you don't have a Hub Summary you will notice a violation cue for that Hub in the "My Account" (Stats) section which can be accessed at the top right of any Hub page. If you don't create one by yourself, the summary that shows up is automatically generated and may not be what you would want it to look like.

A Hub Summary is used to tell the people that may come across your article in search engines what your article is about. Think of it as a preview to your Hub like a movie trailer for a movie.

For more information about Hub Summaries and how to set them up, follow this link to an article from the HubPages Learning Center: http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/How- … ub-Summary

I hope this answers your question!
