What are the demographics of HubPages?
I feel like the majority of writers here are above 30, which isn't exactly the desired audience for some of my fields of knowledge. Is there demographic information that can help me tailor my writings to the HubPages community?
There are quite a few people who are under 30 also. You must be 18 to contribute though, so that lets out the teen ages. The people here have a wide variety of interests and read a lot of different type of information. They write stories for children as well. Many do not write for the HubPages community. They write for Google searches. Since Google searches for such a wide variety of topics, there is really no reason to tailor your writing to the community.
Write what you enjoy writing and enjoy your time here. People will read it and hopefully you will thrive here.

Had an outside person say they wanted to "follow" me, but said that th link did not work. Do people have to be members of the community to follow each other?

I've come to the conclusion that in order to get people to even look at your hubs, you must post in these forums. It may help get a few more fans, but if it doesn't, what have you lost. I've come here to hubber's...
