    What should be my priority?

I have written over 140 articles here. Of that 140 about 90 are performing fairly well.
    Should I

    A) Plough on writing new articles concentrating on SEO

    Or

    B) Revisit the 40 or so underperformers and improve content and SEO now I am more experienced.

Revisit the underperforming hubs and analyze what needs to be done.   You could revitalize them by doing the following: revamp the text, add some keywords which makes the text more attractive to the readers, add some contextual pictures, and if possible, add a poll or a questionnaire in order to make the reader understand more of what you are conveying in your hubs.   Also, you can make the title more catchy.

Well, I don't know what should be your priority in the business of writing hubs and SEO.  However, Marley had some excellent ideas on business and priority in 'A Christmas Carol' - Dickens.  'Business, mankind  was my business.'

You should do both!  Of course, you have limited time as the rest of us do, so I would recommend going over your old hubs first.  There are several reasons:

    1. You can easily delete the stuff at the bottom of the pile that you now have decided is not worth bothering with. This will give you a smaller portfolio, but when anyone looks at your profile, all they will see is your good stuff, which will give you a better reputation than if they wind up finding something from the bottom of the pile. You also won't have to worry about keeping reviving it to stop it from being idle again.
    2.  You can spruce up the rest to reflect the stuff you have learned since you wrote them and give it a chance to get more traffic.
    3. By going through this process, you will learn what works and what doesn't work, and you can apply that information to new hubs.

Thanks, I have been wondering whether I should delete some of the unproductive articles. I am beginning to see the ones which work and am trying to duplicate the model.

Your priority should be based on your goals. What do you want to accomplish on HubPages? Why are you here? Answer questions like these and you will know hat you need to do. Generally speaking (without knowing your objective) I would agree that you need to work on both A and B.

Put it this way Jim, I'm not here purely for the love of it. The last few weeks have seen some changes in my HP activities and seem to be working for me. My main objective is to build page views to 100k. Am at 42k now. I need to do this asap.

In my opinion, you should revisit your underperformed hubs and rectify them before publishing new hubs. This way, those hubs will be featured and your views will increase.

I think Millionaire Tips and gmwilliams have summed it up pretty well.  I haven't deleted my "underperforming hubs" but have noticed when I spruce them up with keywords, photos, etc.  They do pick up and some of them even stay picked up wink
