I have heard Chitika is a decent runner up.  I haven't run any ad campaigns with them just yet, but I've heard good things.  I plan to implement that program on one of my sites to see how it goes.  Adsense does pretty well for me, so I haven't really been too motivated to try other programs.  December kind of changed that though as a couple of my websites were hit pretty hard by Google updates.

Try using Infolinks. For me it can be a contender to adsense.

Thanks sorry if this is stupid question, but we can't use who we want on HB because one has to be accepted by Adsense to earn on HB now don't we.

I have heard that Kontera can also generate revenue. In 3rd party ads HotelsCombined is a good revenue generator and their payout is one of the best affiliate program.  But Adsense is time tested and favorite of millions of publishers world wide.

In the past I used AdsDaq (which later merged with another company to form ContextWeb). Instead of being CPC, you could set a desired CPM for each unit, and they would match advertisers who bid that much with your ad. If no one wanted to pay that much for an impression, the system served up a back-up ad (like AdSense or an affiliate banner).

It's an interesting and different take on advertising, and it gives the publisher a little more power in the relationship (where-as you have no control over CPC / CPM with AdSense). However, they have since merged with another company to create "PulsePoint." I haven't used them since that merger, so I can't vouch for their current reputation.

There's Commission Junction, they have hundreds of affiliates. They aren't the best by any means, but worth a look.
