It's coming up on a year for me at HP. Do you have any advice on what areas to improve in my hubs?

I earn about $2 every 2 weeks for nearly 100 hubs!  I've done all I can think of: backlinks, youtube, polls, maps, links, SEO, blogging elsewhere to direct traffic back, have ads, excellent pics, posting to social sites and directories, writing niche articles.  I'm editing old articles, moving all non-travel articles to my other user name on HP and deleting idled hubs to repost elsewhere on the web where I write on other sites.  But I'm bummed.  I have very low traffic - 30-plus readers/day. All comments to improve my writing or earnings are greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Your writing looks pretty good to me (though, as we all know--or should!--one never finishes learning about writing well.)  The single thing that has helped me the most is commenting on news-sites--consistently!  If you are a recognizable 'voice' in the community of a particular site you are much more likely to draw some traffic when you post a link there.

In general, it sounds as if you are doing things 'right'--probably more so than I do; my tendency is to write the articles, give them a publicity push upon publication (and again on appropriate occasions), and hope for the best.  I used to run the title tuner, but have pretty much given up on that since HubPages took away our control over tags.  (I'd given up changing titles, pretty much, since getting to the point where the Tuner was advising me to change them back to what they had been previously.  Instead, I would add or modify tags based on Tuner input.)

Anyway--I have no better advice than to persevere.  You will probably find that your traffic continues to pick up (though with 'ups and downs.)  That's been my experience, at least, though I must admit that I'm not yet--after 3 years--where I want to be with views and income.

One last comment--it seems that the last several months have been challenging for a lot of Hubbers, including me.  Views for a lot of us have been down, and income even more so.  So you've perhaps been fighting a larger headwind to some extent.

    Good luck!

I went and took a look at your hubs. They are beautiful in both writing and photos. I don't think your problem is writing. I did notice that you have been here almost a year and have only 70 something followers. That 's actually a good number if they are other quality hubbers who tend to share work. If however they are hubbers who don't share then the number might be low. Ideally our views come from outside sources but sometimes hubbers make that journey a lot easier. I had one hub shared on facebook by a hubber and all of a sudden that hub was seeing 50 plus views a day. Many of our hubbbers are part of facebook groups.
With that said, I don't do any SEO, links, youtube, backlinks, or even have a FB presence and I make about $20 a month off of 70 something hubs. However I am very active in the answers section here and I write on highly search topics with low competition.  I wish I had more to tell you. You really do have great writings!

Do you freelance for other projects? I would use my work on Hubpages as a portfolio to acquire some clients. By submitting your hubs to prospects you'd also get views and clicks and you risk scoring a few paying clients that may be interested in paying you for your work.

I would also diversify by creating Youtube videos for some of the hubs and using them in the hub. This way you would get some income from Hubpages and some Ad Sense income from Youtube as well. It might not increase your income here but it will certainly increase your overall income.

Steven, thanks.  I haven't placed a high value on creating my own videos but maybe I'll replace some and see if there's a difference.  I do ghost write and write books for income.  I just keep hearing about others making money here. Me too, please!
