Do you think voters should be able to give "negative-word" feedback?
Hubs can be voted: useful, funny, awesome, beautiful and/or interesting. Do you think there should be "negative" words as well or is the down-vote button sufficient?
I think the down vote button is sufficient. If you have an honest critique for the writer, send it to their email. That type of thing should be kept private. The nice thing about HubPages is the positive reinforcement that we get from the other hubbers, helping us improve our writing. I do not think we need to get negative and have negative feedback on the comments. If you are going to vote negative, at least have the courtesy of letting them know why. A difference of opinion should not ever be voted down, as long as the writing is well done.
The vote down button is sufficient. Negative comments should not be encouraged. It would also have the potential of being abused and people could maliciously label a hub "ridiculous" or whatever just because they don't agree or don't like the hubber etc. I think the current system of thumbs down and flagging is just fine.
My gut says "no", but as this was conceived originally as a site for serious writers, comments like "a bit short/over-worded" or "did you fact check?" or "grammar issues" might not sting too badly. Plus, as these would be solely to critique the *writing*, and not the subject matter or opposing political view, it might be of great use to help some of us raise our hub scores and writing, which is the point, right?
I think that if there is a need, then the person should simply give 'constructive criticism'.
I don't feel that there is a need for negative word feedback buttons, as often a piece can be very well written, but be about a 'sensitive subject' such as religion. The writing could be good and the argument sound, but just because it may upset many people it could cause many negative comment votes. Personally, I enjoy a bit of debate and an informed comment/argument from my readers.
