What is going on with Hub Pages?

In the last couple days I have had several notifications, where a first name person (Richard, Angela, Barbara) has commented on a hub.  Every name I look up has zero activity and followers and is not following anyone.  I click on their name and nothing happens.  Can anyone help me figure this out?  Thank You!

i also noticed the same, these people are similar to Bubblews writers. These are called spammers. They don't want to post articles but leave comments , hoping to earn money, but they are wrong., Don't follow them

The same thing happened to me. They are most definitely spam and I think they are coming out of Russia.   The odd thing is they don't appear to be soliciting business so I can't figure out their purpose.  I contacted HP support but they basically said there is nothing they can do. Peachpurple they cannot be followed because they are not hub pages users.

I don't know why this is not being prevented. It has been going on for months and is only increasing. It is so annoying and I can see why some hubbers may be discouraged from using HP, no one wants to sift through garbage.
I do not understand what reward the spammers could possibly get out of this activity. Consider yourself lucky if their English is somewhat decent and reading even 3 words of each comment hasn't taken up too much of your time.

That is certainly strange, Sparklea.  They must not be hubbers but from outside of HubPages, spammers, most likely.  Did HP give you the option of the spammer button to not approve their comment?  If not, I would surely delete the comments.  Now, on the other hand, people can read articles on HubPages without joining HubPages, so if you feel like they are sincere and leave good comments, it is up to you.

On another note, I wanted to take this time to wish you a Happy New Year and much love, blessings and hubs in the upcoming new year and always.
