Is there any way the main forum page could have two separate "latest post" listings? One for the main forums and the other for the "By Category" forums.
Because the Category forums are more controversial, and also tend to attract more Twitteresque or chatty posts, they tend to dominate the "latest post" listings. If there's a fight going on - which there frequently is - it makes the whole forum look aggressive and unwelcoming to newbies. I'm sure the HubPages team have seen the recent posts about people feeling unwelcome or scared to post, which is sad.
If there were two separate lists, with the general forums at the top, the more welcoming and helpful threads would be more obvious to newbies.
