Looking for a movie name.  Here is the plot...mostly (what I can remember).  FYI: I am not looking for The Lady Vanishes.  It is a black and white film from 30s to 40s, maybe early to mid 50s.  A young woman is on a train and somehow notices a woman who is older and wearing an extremely distinctive hat has disappeared by the end of the train ride.  I think she tries to report it to the police and they don't take her seriously.  She might have hired a P.I. or eventually the police think a guy is responsible for disappearing the woman, I can't remember.  Somehow they come up with a prime suspect (the girl and the guy the police dislike, not the police) and the young woman goes to a concert while following him.  There is an extremely long, almost erotic musical section focusing on the man playing the drums and the woman watching him.  She's so mesmerized she either loses him after the concert or almost does.

In the end it's discovered the woman is alive and unharmed.  I think she had had surgery and had no idea that anyone thought she was missing.  She's discovered because of the hat, but I think her maid is wearing it or something like that.

Is the movie real? How come not a character is named? I think the discussion falls on the principle of ignorance!

I've read whole books where the main character's name is never discussed. Like Rebecca, a famous book (and movie) by Daphne Du Maurier. In the story, a young woman marries an older, rich man. All the servants at the mansion do is talk about his dead ex-wife, Rebecca. The poor young woman lives in Rebecca's shadow for the whole story, until the shocking ending. We never learn the name of the second wife, and the whole book is from her point of view.

I believe you're talking about Ghost Train from 1941.

You can find the movie on YouTube.
