Can someone tell me where I can get good pictures(free) to add to my HubPages articles?

Hi! Susan, it is much better to use your own photos in Hubpages really.

There are several really good sites.

    Pixabay
    Pexels
    Unsplash

They don't require linking or attribution, although it's a good idea for new writers to mention them in the source box. There are loads more, but those are the ones I use. Plus, I take my own photos too.

I just posted on the forums  that suddenly a moderator is turning down my Heal Dove hubs partially because I'm using stock photos!  I am really upset about this because I have been using them for years without any issue.  Have contacted the team about this and am hoping it's only one moderator, but this seems way over the top...especially after 7 years without any image issues.  Your thoughts?

        See what the team says.

We are writers, not photographers. The vast majority of the stock photos are taken by photographers or hobbyists with skill and great cameras.

        I use about 50/50 stock/my own.

You stated my feelings exactly.  I don't think it's fair to expect people who came here to write to also become good photographers.  That wasn't part of the deal and is why many of us use stock photos.

Same here - not only that, for a while (several years ago) there was a lot of pressure to shoot video. When you publish here, you're expected to do all the research, writing, editing, layout, art, links, and other things that are done in publishing, but most of us who have writing backgrounds came from environments where we primarily did the research, writing, and (of course) self-editing.

I was glad to learn how to use HPs tools for loading content, adding photos, etc., because those are useful skills. I did not like the pressure to produce original photographs and I very much disliked the push to produce videos.

Some niche accounts lend themselves well to original photos, because they are geared to self-help, or they're about cooking, crafts, home repairs, car maintenance, etc. Other niche accounts are less easy to support with photos. I'm more of a generalist (which is less advantageous in a UGC site, but that was and is my history in writing). Most of what I've written does not invite original photos.

Maybe someone will post the current site guidelines for art.

That's strange. The learning centre states:

"You can purchase relatively inexpensive images from sites such as iStockphoto, which has a huge library of both photos and graphics. That said, there are many great sites online where you can find images that you can legally use for free."

Maybe it's a new moderator in need of some training.

I was thinking this and have addressed this issue with the team.  Still waiting for an answer on this one, but find it disconcerting.  The learning center even provides a list of "white " sites that we can use without issue...so you're probably right.  However, I currently have two hubs I have updated based on the directions I was given and to date, neither has been either accepted or refused.  One has been sitting for more than a week, and I resubmitted the updated version almost immediately .  Sure hope you're right, and think you probably are!

I have an account on public domain with over 1,100 photos and try to add to the account daily. Most of my photos have to do with nature. I would be happy for you to take a look and see if there is something you can use.

You will have to copy and paste the above link and I am not sure I am allowed to put a link on here, so I hope I don't get in trouble!  smile

There are some lovely photos there, and the free versions are of a good quality, so fine for HP. Thanks. Have bookmarked.

Timetraveler2: Could it be the photos used are too "used?" And thus not suitable from a SEO point of view?

I haven't heard of unsplash and will check it out and the other link as well. Thank you, both.

I hate to interrupt, but I use Pixabay or WikiMedia Commons and they (photos) have attribution for their photos.
