For those who have had their articles stolen by international countries and would like to protect their copyright article, what did you do to correct the situation? If you did correct it was it worth the effort and expenses?

Issue a DMCA to their webhost smile

And don't forget to send the website owner an invoice for unauthorised use.

DMCA is only USA. Few countries where stuff is stolen care to reciprocate. Sending anything to the owner of a site in places like turkey, russia, pakistan, china, india,....would probably never get seen, let alone acted on.

I've had plenty of success with other countries. It won't work in China and Russia, but the sites wouldn't be stealing traffic anyway as they are so bad.

That’s totally correct Stephen. However, most western countries have their own copyright legislation and will react to a DMCA notice.

The last one I sent was to a UK hosting company and they responded immediately.

As Bev said above, there are some countries that will ignore the notice. Nonetheless, you can still issue a copyright notice to Google to get the url removed from the search engine results.

I have one currently from China and not sure that I will ever get it removed.

This has happened several times to me. I normally try and reach out to the site owner first, and if they don't respond then I contact the hosting company.

In the rare occasions that the hosting company does nothing, I then get in contact with other people who have had their content stolen. Lo and behold if it's from a big publication the site is usually closed pretty quickly.

Many countries are part of the The Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works,

But even more will get the message if you get them dropped from Google and Adsense.
