I updated one of my articles, and put in a couple of updated Amazon mods. They were deleted almost as soon as the article was published. I thought Amazon mods were allowed! Why were they taken down? They were completely appropriate for the article. The article was about a "Tea Cup Shower", an old bridal tradition. The Amazon mods were for tea cups, and a book on how to host a tea party. The article is on one of the niche sites. Do they have different rules than the rest of HubPages? I don't get it. It's hard to make any money here without Amazon mods.

It's useful if you can mention your personal experience with the items and why you recommend them. It's also better to use an inline text link so that the item becomes an essential part of the article.

if you can't talk about those actual teacups and that actual book, then they are not relevant to the article.

Tip for books: download a Kindle sample. Use a quote from the first part of the book, which you can cite, and add your link to the title. Again, it must  form part of the text in a natural way in order to be absolutely relevant.

Ragged edge is right - personal experience is nearly a necessity.

So is relevance - your hub isn't about tea cups or hosting tea parties in general.  Tea cups are not unusual or difficult to find and your hub should be giving all the information a book does on the specific type of party you're writing about.  Either way there is no benefit for the reader to have those ads in there.

It isn't always easy, negotiating the HP rules on Amazon, but personal use, absolute relevance to the hub are necessary.  So is added value to a reader.

Thanks. I think that is a little nit-picky, but okay. I don't know what you mean by "put a text link" into the article. I thought we aren't supposed to put out-going links in our articles. Also, I don't know how to do it anyway.

Hi -- yes, it's nit-picky, but overall it helps your standing with Google (or so I'm told).

To make a text link, in editing mode you highlight the phrase that describes the item, like "cast iron skillet." Then you click the "chain link" icon in the upper right. A screen will pop up, and then you cut and paste the url of the amazon page of the cast iron skillet you're hoping to sell. That's it -- now if someone goes to amazon through you text link you will get a percentage of whatever they spend. Party!

Oh thank you! I've made good money in the past from Amazon links, so I really miss them. I'll have to try this and make some edits to my pages. Maybe I'll start earning again. Thank you!!!!!

Diane, yes, we miss having all those sales from Amazon modules like the old days on Squidoo. I've pretty much given up trying to put Amazon into my recent hubs. Fortunately, since I have such a large number, I'm earning some from the Ad Program each day, even without the Amazon.

It's still very possible to earn money via Amazon. We're not supposed to talk about specific earnings, but for me this year, so far, they have ranged between $100 and $300. It's just a question of knowing what HP expects. I don't even use Amazon links on all my hubs. I never add capsules any more although I have some older hubs with them on.
