I haven't been on Hubbpages for a while. I needed to develop an alternate form of income and have been focusing on writing ebooks. Still a few more to go, then I'm uploading them altogether and marketig them together. Will be another few months.
My traffic has dropped radically in the last week, and for the first time, my hubberscore has dropped. I take it that absence does not make the heart grow fonder.
That said, I've had a few old articles being selected for the niche sites - which is quite touching, and the reason I've come back.
I need to know:
1. Through the years, I've repeatedly lost money on content sites that were sold (starting with Associated Content when it was sold to Yahoo). Is it really worth investing time and energy in Hubpages for the medium to long term? I am so very tired of investing in sites, then seeing a change of ownership, and the owners in their efforts to up the profits and get back some of their investment, penalise the writers. I still don't trust Maven. Do you?
2. I'm very close to getting my one million views in a few months. If I delete certain articles, will that affect the numbers?
3. I've noticed that the 'write' criteria seem to have changed. Is writing more than 1200 words now not acceptable?
4. Some of the books I've written over the last 5 months have similar articles. Is it okay to link them to the article or is self-promotion totally dead on Hubpages now?
Many thanks.
Welcome back. I am a recent returner too so will follow this thread and see what advice regulars have. I did remove quite a number of my hubs for my own site long time ago. For me I am writing here again as I am rusty and enjoy the process. I am retired now so it is a just for fun venture for me.if I earn it is a bonus
Hi Tess,
I wondered where you had gone. Welcome back
Nothing much has changed in the last couple of months. You are aware of the Maven takeover, aren't you?
I think that word count when writing hubs is just a guide. I've written lots with many more.
As to your view count. I'm not sure about that.
Thanks. I moved house again, and then started writing books again. Still have three more to do. Plus a ghostwriting gig. Also recently started a blog on medium. I want to transfer my political posts there because it is a political blog, and my political hubs don't do well here.
I would be absolutely amazed if the total views is not the sum of the "ever" column for all the hubs. Which means that yes, the total will drop if you delete hubs.
Does it really matter? How important is that accolade to you? How badly do you want to get rid of hubs?
Sort of thought that might but the case. Thanks.
Wilderness, I want to transfer my political hubs to Medium. They don't do well here.
wilderness is correct; if you delete a hub, any views they have will be deleted from your total.
I've close to 300 pages here. I bet I've deleted well over 100 over the course of 8 years. Most of those weren't especially good webpages, but at one time I thought, 'screw it, this thing has ten thousand views? I don't care. I don't like it. I can do this same thing much much better.'
Delete, and when the page is actually gone after 24 hours or so, the total view count will be adjusted downward.
I've deleted hubs that were on niches, but because I came to dislike them too. I don't think I suffered from it.
Usually I come back and write something different. Or write about the same thing, only express it better the second time around.
Thank you. Then I'm going to go ahead. Can'tdo it right now, but as I remove them from Hubpages I will write something more appropriate to this platform (or remove from Wizzley and put there.
Yep. Personal experience. When hubs are deleted, the total does indeed drop.
Welcome back, Tess. Absence may not make the heart grow fonder but you were indeed missed. Have you had success on Medium? I have written a few things there to try and see if I can earn something extra as my earnings never seem to go up here no matter how many views I get. 400 views is a buck fifty to two bucks so is 600 or 1000. Don't know how that is but it just is. Medium is a bit odd as income is based on "claps" but only for those who have bought a membership and then you get a small percentage of their monthly fee based on how many articles they clapped for. I have earned 6-10 dollars on a couple of articles the first week they were up, another couple of bucks but then it stagnated. I seem to be spreading myself too thin, trying to keep up with a bunch of social media sites, bookmarking sites, Medium and HP. I need to streamline. I guess everyone gets into that position at some point or another. Congrats on the ebooks! That takes a lot of perseverance. Hope you stick around!
I decided to take the patron route with regard to Medium as everything I read indicated it was not likely that one would earn there.
I decided to use Medium as a blog as it has a collection of outstanding writers. I studied it for about three months before I started (only two weeks ago).
Yesterday I noticed that both yahoo and google had already indexed my blog. Someone googled me at the local library and as I only posted two weeks ago, I was quite stunned.
As I have been preparing and writing the blogs for a few months, it has been easy to just copy and paste so it is regular.
My end goal is more name recognition and a broad following on several fronts. Hopefully, this will lead to selling more books.
Gotcha. Good plan. I'm happy for your about your blog. That's a great response. You obviously are an excellent writer with good knowledge about what people want to read about (but we knew that already )
Thank you, but the truth is I've been slow on the update. I really learnt about what people want to read through social networking - specifically through Google Plus. I made a study of all my posts that went viral (up to 1.5 million readers/views each), and started realizing that if a headline and illustration didn't catch the eye immediately, then it would sink.
More or less that's why I think there are several factors that need to work in the article. The two things that are vital are the headline and the first picture.
Also one has to use longtail keywords for one's title/s.
Nice to see you back on the forums Btw, out of topic. But how is the water situation in Cape Town right now? It's been off the news for a while.
We're still down to 50 litres a day. Nothing has been lifted. Tourists are still told we are facing a water shortage. There are still massive fines. That said, many of the dams have filled up, are half full, but some others are still too low.
There's a weariness that if we just use up all the water, we will face this again.
South African global warming authorities have indicated that our area will face flash floods and drought, and that is our future.
I see. Yes, there is a scare of both in that region and many other regions around the world. I hope they work to make things better.
I doubt very much that the bans on water usage will lift. People might be angry that the government didn't prepare for this, but we all understand global warming. We know what the future holds, and we understand that water is a precious commodity. I think there has been a general change of consciousness.
That's good. There are still many in power who say climate change is a hoax. It was the same when the ozone hole was getting bigger, many in power said it was a scam.
Not sure anyone truly believes climate change is a hoax, though they may use the phrasing because those promoting all of the phrases connected to it have confused the related theories. Everyone knows the climate has always and will always change.
Water is a precious commodity and in areas where people over build usage needs to be managed properly. The earth is a closed water system that people need to better understand and work with in order to face population concentration issues. Over population is not the problem, but over concentration of populations creates issues.
Just as people in hurricane prone areas need to be prepared to deal with all that can happen when a large one hits, growth in areas prone to drought need to realize that if there is an over concentration of people/buildings they need to be prepared for times of drought. The best case scenario for people who do not have a backup plan in these sorts of situations is displacement.
Only in America. The rest of us in the world don't argue about climte change. Our identities don't depend on our success and our money. So we don't have a vested interest in destroying the evidence of science because it challenges our profits in business (and that is what is behind climate change denial).
Only in America? What about communist China?
Communist China is pushing for green energy more than any other country in the world right now. Mr. Trump says China invented the term to take down the US economy, so even he knows Communist China is better than the US in this aspect. Read this for instance: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/19/worl … hange.html
Yup. China is a role model for the rest of the world when it comes to trying to go Green. They do have one of the highest pollution indexes in the world, but that's because they buy waste from the West and it's a huge cradle of manufacturing for the world. They recently decided to stop doing this and put the health of their people first.
When you have a communist rule, I guess you need to make sure your people are somewhat happy. In a diplomacy, you can blame the past and other parties. I'd still not want to live there though.
I'm not sure that China's push for green energy has much to do with climate change; I would guess they are more concerned with not killing off half their population with intense pollution.
Well, that's a good thing, isn't it? They actually care about killing half their population! That said, you're may well be right. However, Xi Xinping spoke about climate change at Davos (not G7 - was mistaken), so I think in realizing that pollution is responsible for global warming, they do acknowledge it.
Also, Chinese politicians generally hold engineering degrees - not law degrees.
Of course it's a good thing. It just isn't being done for the altruistic reason of global warming, and to applaud their efforts on global warming is nonsense. I have a really hard time believing that the upper echelon of China politics cares about anything outside their personal life. Any more than the majority of politicians anywhere does.
Of course I'm rather jaded on politicians and don't trust any of them as far as I could thrown them (always with a few exceptions, of course).
I feel the same way. They are polluting the enviroment so badly that people are not even able to breathe, but as long as they come along and say "we are against global warming" some persons are going to think they are a bunch of great politicians.
They are also now actively working not to pollute the environment. If you think about it, California only started legislating against certain practices after pollution became bad. What country doesn't act after things have happened?
No, despite what you choose to believe, they have placed industry way above any enviormental concerns. Their government is centralized, so if they really did want to change things as much as they have convinced you it would be easy.
Their pork industry is a good example. The Chinese central farms feed tons of antibiotics to their pigs every year, and then dump the sewage into the rivers. Centralized farms, owned by the people (which is the goverment.)
No, it is 'not what I choose to believe.* It is the result of extensive research.
Americans pollute more than twice the amount of any nation on earth. So, what I'm getting from here is "Hey, don't look at us - look at everybody else.'
No, look at Americans.
For your information, just in terms of carbon dioxide emissions, they use up 16.1 per capita compared to China's 7.7.
Next, bear in mind that America has been sending all her toxic waste and waste to China to bury, and China has just said no. Guess what? America is up in arms because China said "Sorry, we don't want your waste anymore."
And then there's the hypocrisy.
You know viscose/rayon? It's a wonderful fabric - made of wood. But it's highly toxic to make it. So America made it illegal to manufacture in the States, but imports it and tons and tons of clothing made from it every year.
If a country really believes in removing pollution, then it does without the product. It doesn't import the product when it is made in another country.
I 'do not chose to believe things.' I check, double check, tripple check, check six times over from three dozen sources to make very sure that I have all my apples in a row.
Here are some sources for you to study.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_c … _emissions
Here's another list. China isn't even on it. The USA is.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/maps … a-ranking/
This is a link from the Union of Concerned China.
https://www.ucsusa.org/global-warming/s … 6sAy2j7TIU
Yes, China does emit more Carbon Dioxide than any other nation on earth. They also have more people than any other nation on earth. Compare apples with apples. Also, consider things like the denim jeans industry. 350 million pairs of jeans made in China goes to America every single year. Consider that there are only 317 million people in America. Are Americans eating blue jeans for breakfast?
I truly wouldn't be surprised if China shuts downt the denim jean industry. When an American president accused China of stealing American technology, the Chinese president laughed and said "We don't need to."
It's irrelevant whether China is now the leading action-taker in terms of global warming and pollution because her people are dying.Americans are dying as well.
http://time.com/4836660/air-pollution-health-death-epa/
The point is that China is doing something about it, and America has a nincompoop and idiot for a president, and the president is trying to sell coal and fossil fuel to the European Union (they all burst out laughing).
Don't blame the president, he is a JA, but he's got loads of supporters. So something is wrong with the people in general. They need to get out of their bubble.
Living in Europe I have met so many travelers from the US who have literally thought that Europe is one country and were baffled when they arrived. They thought Paris was the capital of Europe. I'm darn sure this is not the majority or any decent proportion, but these people have at least a high school degree. Something's wrong lol.
Before someone says why does China have so many people or why does India have so many people, I'd like to clarify. The lands in these two countries are super fertile and the middle east and south-east Asia were the cradle of human civilization for millennia. Over time, the population grew in these regions because of the conditions, it was just not possible in other regions until the industrial revolution and the potato boom. That's when the rest of the world's population exploded, while this region maintained it's growth. Yes, they need to control their growth and a lot is being done to achieve this.
I make it a point to cross reference my stuff too and I see that I talk to locals about the stuff before I set my mind on stuff. That's the whole reason I asked you about the situation in Cape Town. Who better to ask than someone living there.
I'm aware that the people voted Trump in, and that is what is so awful about it - that so many Americans actually thought this ignorant, stupid, lying piece of immoral garbage would actually 'drain the swamp.' He was the swamp!
I'm European - German/South African, and, like you, have lived in a lot of countries. 11 years in the States. I returned to South Africa 3 years ago after been gone 20 years, and will probably return to Europe.
Yup, wasn't an argument against what you said, I just wanted to add to it.
Trump has done more for the USA in less than 2 years than Obama and Bush did in 16.
If you are still so naive at this point that you believe that research cannot be manipulated I feel sorry for you.
Yes, you choose to believe.
luckily some of us know how to tell truth from lies.
Wow. Did you actually get through university?
Wow, are your powers of persuasion really so bad that you feel it necessary to stoop to a personal attack?
Not personal attack, but when someone doesn't know the difference between belief and empirical evidence, there is no further conversation.
I'm done.
Pretty sure you never studied any of the hard sciences at varsity, otherwise you couldn't make the comemnts you do.
When a person makes a comment like yours, they aren't done, they never started.
"I'm done".
"But I just can't resist one last barb..."
Give it a rest. Tess, there's no need to be like this here. You can state a point of view without making personal, unfounded attacks. Think before you press Send. Re-read your intended comment and ask yourself how you would feel being on the receiving end of it.
After 11 years in the States, it's best that Republcians and Christians don't speak to me. I do not have one bit of respect or one moment of time for them. When people deny climate change, this is not a point of view. It is the most profound ignoance I have ever encountered in my life. I will not respect a point of view that is destroying our world. I don't want to talk to them or have anything to do with them. I was also originally replying to someone who asked me what was happening in Cape Town, and then the conversation went off on a tangent.
I find it interesting that I don't 'attack' and 'insult; on other forums, just hubpages. I'm also contantly accused of anti-Americanism. Tell me, have you heard of anti-Britishism? Or have you hard of German or Aussie exceptionalism? It's a whole new language.
I'm done with it. I'm a humanist, acultural, etc. I started this thread off by asking some questions. Only one got answered. Lobobrandon asked me about what was happening in Cape Town, then I have a whole of garbage. So must I respond to it?
Please, if people have republcian or Christian points of view, leave me out of it. I can't cope with that kind of ignorance.
I really don't care about your views. As far as I am concerned you are free to express them till the cows come home.
However, I do object to you singling out someone's education in a denigrating fashion in order to undermine their point of view. It's rude, unnecessary and unacceptable.
Another thing. How does one respond to a person who tells you that a rational, evidence based response is a belief? One cannot respond to that kind of comment. It's not a conversation. It's a frustrating attempt to speak to someone who is deaf.
So, yes, I have to point out that the level of education and reasoning is not sufficient for me to have a conversation with.
At this point I have had a gutful of that kind of thing. It destroyed my life.
I am not sure why you feel it necessary to denigrate my education. You have appearantly honed the skill of personal attacks by participating in the topical forums.
After all, the political forums teach you that anyone that does not feel EXACTLY like you do is obviously wrong. Or is that what they taught in your school?
Whether climate change exists or not, is NOT a political opinion. That is proved by hard science. When people deny it, it is NOT because it hasn't been proven by hard evidence. It is because they have bought into the propaganda by big business because big business will lose out if they have to adjust for climate change.
As my entire world is based on hard science, when people make comments about something being my 'belief,' I just cut off.
If one cannot define the difference between delusion (belief) and reality, then we might as well all be dead.
It is eduation that enables one to see the differences between belief and empirical evidence. If you cannot see the differrence, it is not about insulting you, it is simply stating that if you had more education, you'd be able to see the difference.
I think the reason that you disappeared from the forums for so long is that you were banned because of your repeated personal attacks. Do you feel it necessary to attack anyone that disagrees with you?
It does not make you appear superior in any way. Why do you behave like that?
Trump is the single greatest POTUS of my lifetime.
I'm sorry you feel that way That has more to do with personal projection than with facts. It's also true that if China is greening her cities and removing fossil fuels, that has nothing to do with personal self-interest. It has to do with fixing up China's sitation. You just don't want to believe that China is capable of good. You should google their technoogy, architecture, etc. some time. They are way ahead.
Sure they're ahead...as their farmers still use oxen and wooden plows in the fields.
China builds a new high tech, beautiful city...that no one lives in because there is nothing to do there. So they force people out of their homes into the city, where they country is forced to support them because there is nothing to do there.
China is great at blowing it's own horn, but all it has is a handful of projects, while the millions of peasants see no change at all.
I think you should go visit or read the articles of those who have. Sure they have had some failures. What country hasn't?
You choose to believe what they want you to believe. I choose to believe their actions.
I choose to believe what I saw and the locals I've spoken to. I also believe the Chinese researches I work alongside with.
You live in a green coutry. The actions of the Germans are in line with what they say. The Chinese pollute the environment. Even if the government says "we are alll for improvement and want to stop global warming" their actions do not follow their words.
You can blame it on the industries that are producing so much and polluting the environment. Really though, do you think those industries would be allowed to operate if the Chinese goverment was not in favor of them?
Volkswagen, hello. Very green diesel engine tests. Oh, and I meant the time I was in China. I've traveled a lot and lived in a few countries. E-waste from here goes to China and most of the plastic as well. Let's not begin to talk about paper.
But to be honest, this thread reminds me of Indian politics. The blame game instead of saying hey they do that well, why aren't we doing that? Instead of aiming to improve, why not point out the splinter in the eye of a nation across the globe that takes away the focus from me.
Pointing out the splinter in the eye of a nation across the globe. You mean like Tess pointing out "only in America"?
It was the same with the ozone hole. The entire world governments came together not to save the planet, but to save humans from cancer and worse.
Luckily the best way to save humans is to save the environment and so China is definitely doing the right thing. I don't see one government doing it for the sake of "global warming", everyone has ulterior motives, and that's okay in some situations.
??? You clearly don't read. China is way ahead of America in terms of preparing for climate change. They are greening their cities and are now planning a city that is completely run on clean energy.
Forgive me, but do you actually read news sheets outside the American propaganda machine?
Yes, I do read. Amazingly enough, we have education here in Brazil. What we do not have is massive rows of factories leading to even more global warming.
Forgive me, but do you think that is okay?
LOL! Don't you love that Tess is back to insult us?
Yes, I have seen you take some serious hits. They must build you Welshmen with some really thick skin.
They can't handle unadorned sentences.
Am a Cornish woman, by the way Tougher still.
I'm not quite sure why you think it's an insult to ask if someone reads. Most people don't.
The question means does a person read broadly and regularly, not if a person has been taught to read. Only 5% of the population reads regularly. The rest don't pick up a book from the day they leave school. It's not an insult. It's a question.
This is why fake news is believed so often - people do not read broadly.
How else could one suggest that China is worse in terms of action regarding global warming than America? The newsheets from Europe,China, the East, and Aussie talk about it often enough.
Even at the G7, Xi Jinping took the lead in talking about meeting climate change head on.
Perhaps I've just got a thicker skin because I'm accustomed to the interaction on Reddit and G+ where one gets to the point.
I think so too, all my friends are highly educated, but most rarely read and I know many who believe the fake news. I am often on Reddit and I love it. It's almost always to the point and people know what they are saying most of the times. Anyone who doesn't seem to know what they are talking about is downvoted and you don't even see their posts.
I am often shocked by how little people read. Or that they read the same things, and not anything new to broaden their outlook or knowledge. It's important to look at issues from other points of view.
I read almost a book a day too.
Not too long ago, I was emptying a room to be painted. My friend said, "You would have so much more room if you got rid of all these books." I was stunned, and answered, "I love my books." He couldn't relate.
We have a general dumbing down going on in the U.S. I saw it when my son was in college. I used to look at what he was working on, and it was all the subject matter I learned in High School. He later told me he learned everything he knew from his father and I. He never missed a Dean's list and didn't even try.
It's really a shame. And this country spends a lot of money on Education. But it pays teachers such low salaries, and for some reason it's not a respected field. So it attracts lazy teachers, mostly young women who want to work for a few years until they start a family, and figure they will come back when their children are old enough to begin school. It's straight out of the 1950s.
When my daughter and I immigated to the States, we both went to college. The syllabus more or less repeated her British Alevels, and I was learning things that I learnt in junior school in South Africa in the 50s and 60s. I was also constantly arguing with professors becaue they were always wrong. rom math, through geology, interior design, whatever, I used to go to the Chair to prove that the professor was wrong. Never lost a case. The actual text books sometimes had erroneous information.
Brazil can do a lot more for the protection of the Amazon and for this they should be paid by other countries that benefit from their massive, yet rapidly depleting carbon sink. I personally do not buy anything that uses Palm oil, the rainforests in Brazil and Indonesia are burnt down to grow palm trees.
The greatest deforestation I have seen is due to the cattle industry. We have the largest cattle population in the world, and unfortunately it just keeps on growing. A few years ago I visited the relative of a friend up north and he was proud to show off his 1500 hectare ranch, which at one time had been the Amazon rainforest.
Such a waste!
Damn. Yeah, all I know about the deforestation there is from documentaries. Never seen one of these, but yeah I can see that it's a huge thing too.
This is something I'm very interested in. How do you think we can change it? If profit is linked to status and power, and people desire status and power, how will we begin to do things that are good for the earth rather than the individual? It is not a question I have been able to answer.
I wish I had an answer to that. I am not a fan of government interference but so far the only thing I have seen work are laws that require ranchers to conserve land. If someone buys 1000 hectares of forest, he is only allowed to deforest 800 because if he clears it all the government can punish him. (I know that sucks because the fauna need more than 20%, but if that law was not in place the ranchers would strip all of the land.)
Unfortunately this law does not work for much of the land. I am trying to set up a capybara reserve in my swamp land and when the ag people were out recently to measure one of my fences I talked about it and the person said "Oh, but you do not have to do that since you are a smallholder." I know I do not HAVE to do that but if the small ranchers do not do something that 20% law is not going to save our flora and fauna.
From what I have read about your country, many of the large ranches first settled by the Boers are being broken up and turned into small farms. The same thing is happening here, and since the government does not expect the small farmer to keep any of his land in forest, we are losing it.
(I have not seen a Capuchin monkey or sloth in months. I am feeling very pessimistic about this.)
I have a large forest in my back yard (I live in the Atlantic rainforest) and am pretty used to daily visits from bands of Capuchins and marmosets. Sloths are solitary animals so I only saw one once in a while but I have a grove of umbaumba trees next to my house so at times was visited by one of them. (Umbaumba seems to be one of their favorites.) At times I would hear cats too, but have not heard a jaguar in many months. (They are migratory so may just be hunting elsewhere.)
Awesome. I grew up close to a forest, I miss that environment.
You're reading alt right literature. No, South Arican farms are not being broken up from farms that were settled a few hundred years ago. There are enormos farms, yes. The land on which they were build was removed from the African people during Grand Apartheid and given to white Afrikaaners (Boers).
When Apartheid went, one of the policies was to fix up the land distribution. The government would pay farmers for it. Unfhappily, many farmers saw this as a way to extort the government to pay ten times what the farms were worth.
Now the government has said that they will pay what the farm is worth, and if the farmer still won't sell the farm to the goverment, the government will exappropriate them.
The biig thing is that this lad was bought for nothing about 60 yearsago, and it originally belonged to the disenfranchised black people.
In addiition, if you've read somewhere that there is genocide in South Africa, um, no. Farmers (red, white, pink, black, and purple) have a .2% murder rate. In the cities (the townships), it's a .7% murder rate. Farmers are simply murdered because they are easy pickings. There is no genocice.
Wbat is ture is that White people own virtually all the wealth in the country, and this ha't changed. Black people are getting frustrated. The number one reason for the wealth disparity is the low wages of workers and high salaries of the ownership class.
During apartheid years, it was illegal to pay a person of colour more than 25% of what a white person earned. Even if he had twice the qualifications. The inequlity resulting from this has not been fixed up.
Actually, we need to sort this out.
One of the constants that come up with people who follow me on social media is that no matter what I have said, no matter how much they have disagreed with me, when they have checked my sources, my words, whatever, they have never in five or ten years ever found me to be wrong. And I have had a good few people say that.
Many of my reviews come from people who have spent years arguing with me, trolling me, etc.
So I say things that hit at people, at ideas, at cliches, at holy cows, whatever. I say them because I am thinking. I say them because I am sometimes just plain shocked at how little people actually know. I say them because someone needs to say them. But I never, never, never say them in a spirit of malice or vengeance.
At the moment, there's a meme doing the rounds on various social networks. It says that if you can answer the 7 questions correctly, you will never be taken in by fake news. I got 6. The interesting thing about the questions is that every single bit of it was recently in the news. If one read widely, one couldn't help but get 7.
But most people don't. They don't read the Guardian. They don't read the Intercept. They don't read The Daily Mail. They don't read Der Spiegel. They don't read France 24. They don't read the Wall Street Journal or the Atlance or New Scientist or Science News or the Telegraph or African News or the BBC or National Geography or Psychology today. So they don't know. They have a narrow perspective, because for the past 40 years newspapers have begun to slant their news in order to garner market share. (I was taught all about that at the London School of Journalism), and so if one doesn't read the opposing views, one cannot be sure what is the truth and what is propaganda. The best way to find out what is going on in one's own country is read the news about one's country is an international publication.
Yes, I know that for many years I struggled and was virtually destroyed (that's why I left Hubpages the first time), and I know a great deal of this is that I have Aspergers and seldom got the social etiquette of 'if it's not nice, don't say it.'
I can't say that I'm guilty of that anymore. You all hurt me and destroyed me so much that I eventually learnt. Now I know what is meant by I'm hurting people's feelings and I am being tactless and rude and whatever.
Here's the thing. Don't you think our personal ego needs to be put behind us and we need to be able to talk about things without having to watch our words?
As per the last post, only someone who didn't read widely couldn't know that China was at the forefront of converting technologies to pollution free and global warming friendly. Xi Xinping spoke about it Davos. He also made this speech about globalisation.

So when someone asks me if China isn't worse than America when it comes to global warming, my jaw drops. I am stunned. That is honestly my first response. And when I ask if they read, it's a serious question - not a bitch remark. It's idiomatic phrasing, by the way. It means do people read books, reliable sources, etc. It does not mean if they learnt to read at school.
I am so very tired of constantly having to defend myself. I don't want to be seen as a nasty person. I'm not. I have a genuine desire to make our world a much better place for all. And I've lived in a great many different places, under different political dispensations, and I read a book a day, plus about three or four hours of screening international news wires, magazines, scientific resesarch, etc. I don't speak lightly or write lightly. I want to be sure I'm right. That's why I check things so much. I do that because I care.
I don't want to apologize constantly because what I said hurt someone's feelings. It's not about our feelings. It's about our world.
This thread made me chuckle.
Starts out as "Does HubPages miss me" and quickly devolves into the OP and others hurling insults at the American people, American business and the American President.
I suppose it would be useless to point out the irony of this happening courtesy of a platform created by an American company via American capitalism which has a disproportionately huge American audience whom many of the critics here profit from.
I got a laugh out of it, anyway.
It's not pointing fingers at America if you read it through. It's more of trying to open the eyes of people to the problems of the world. Capitalism and democracy have nothing to do with the bigger picture and everyone needs to work together. But I'm out of this thread, some people are just too boundary centric and can't see wider. Boundaries are man-made. Most of them didn't exist 200 - 300 years ago.
I'm literally ashamed that I didn't vote for Trump. I'm going to get it right this time though, and in 2020. I can see US democrats for what they are now. I'm voting Republican all the way in November, and I'm going to proudly vote for Trump in 2020.
I don't want to bring this forum thread alive again, so please do not reply to this post, send me an email if you want to. Check this out:

(begin quote) republicans, previously: there's no need to reduce fossil fuel emissions because climate change isn't real
republicans, now: there's no need to reduce fossil fuel emissions because climate change is unavoidable (end quote)
I personally don't have the time nor motivation to look into that report, but quite a few well-informed people have commented on it.
Why is it that hubpages can't have a BLOCK button. Every other site in the world does.
Who would you block? Anyone that doesn't agree with you on "your" thread? Seems pretty boring that way...
So YOU get to choose who can express an opinion or not? Cool.
You really should consider emigrating to China. When the leaders tell you how much they are improving things you can believe them, and when anyone disagrees you can petition the government to block their site.

I'm still hanging in there on HP editing and writing, although my writing has slowed down due to the current circumstances here. Like many other writers I've signed up for Medium. I know how important interaction is on the site with other writers so if you let me know what name you go by on Medium,...

Hi,How feasible is it to earn 500$ + monthly from writing on hubpages? Is it possible from ad revenue alone? Or how should one go about mastering amazon links? (I've never had much luck with that aspect)Any tips/suggestions?I enjoy writing and my favorite niches are food, gardening, travel and...

An editor reviewed this particular hub and decided that due to the fact that it has been extensively covered they could not get it on Toughnickel. To my surprise I found it doing well on the main site - HubPages.

Having only joining this two days ago, all I can say is ... it works. I'm too tired to work out the whys etc, I just know that it does. My traffic has already doubled (more than) and that is, I presume, the point.I never was a hubber that had a thousand views per day but perhaps that's achievable...

Can you remember what it was like when you first started to write Hubs? Before you read this rambly post - please know that I am not a newbie trying to suck you dry for information without doing any of the work myself. What I'm interested in is how you got through the first few months? How did you...
