Amazon ads not allowed—why am I doing wrong?

I’m having trouble figuring out what’s allowed and not allowed regarding amazon links. I have read the post regarding amazon in the help section and I thought I was following the rules but they keep getting deleted in moderation. Can someone please give me examples of what is allowed?

Example: I wrote an article called 10 perennial herbs for zone 5 or higher. I linked to a culinary herb book I like and herb snippers. I have over 1000 words in the article.

Are we not allowed to link to books?

In another article, I described how I use rooting hormone to start lilacs and I linked to the product I used. That was also taken out.

I can’t figure out how to include links without being out of compliance.  Help!

You need to do what others here have mentioned but also do an in text link, not an ad with a photo.  It's a good idea to state not only that you use the product but to also state why it is better than similar ones.  Always try to advertise something that people can't just go to a store and easily buy if possible because then your ad is seen as being helpful to the reader.

I wanted to update that I linked to empty spice jars in an arrival that discussed buying bulk spices and using your own jars and that we removed. I don’t get it.

They are kind of particular that you speak about that particular jar, what makes it better than other spice jars. Something like, "I like these SimpleHouseware  jars because they are attractive, affordable and have a wide mouth so they are easy to fill and clean.

The rooting hormone is a good example. If you have an article about starting lilacs and discuss using a rooting hormone, link to it and add a comment like (This is the rooting hormone that I use. I have had excellent results with this product.)
That is a recommendation of something you are familiar with. You have let the reader know that the reason you are recommending it is because it is the best product available and you use it. It is not spammy, and it will not be removed by your HP editor.
(Go ahead and add it back to your article. Use similar wording to let your readers know that this is what you use. Your article mentions that you can add a little rooting hormone but it is not necessary. You need to rewrite this if you ever plan on selling any rooting hormone. Why should I even bother buying this if it is not even necessary?)
