Hi, I posted something similar about a year ago, but as I was none the wiser I've left Hubpages on the backburner....

My deal is this: I'm still unclear about the way money is made here. Something about google ads and you're own websites? Do I need a degree in marketing?

When I posted articles and gone to other sites I've had a few looks etc.
But it seems like a hell of a lot of work for a small recoup that may or may not come.

    Anyone else agree or disagree?

Cheers for any pointers beyond the basics....

    Kind regards
    Jonny

No, you do not need a degree in marketing. You do need about 15 minutes to go and sign up for adsense, and another 15 minutes to sign up for Paypal. (If you have an adesense account, all you need to do is go to your account page and enter the number. If you have  a Paypal, sign up for the Hubpages payment program and give them your email address so that they can send your payement to you each month.)
You will not get rich doing this. You can make a small wage for the time that you spend writing. It is not much work, and since you already have some articles on the niche sites you will have some traffic. (If you want more money, a job in a brick and mortar store is going to provide more income. You will also find that it is a lot more work to be stuck behind a cash register than it is to be working here whenever you want. Or not working here, if you are not in the mood to work at times.)

Great reply, thanks. Sounds straightforward. I think I may have done this and not put up enough articles, or relevant ones. Cheers Dr Mark

They are definitely well written and relevant but you may need more. When I was starting here many years ago I had one article with decent traffic after about 20, kept going and have found out that only about 10-20% of your articles are your income earners.
I have very good traffic now but also have almost 300 articles.

There you go. Excellent, thanks Dr Mark. Yes, that makes sense now

I think also you've stuck to one subject area and proved your expertise, while I really love going across different subjects (showing off?!) as that's what stimulates me to write. Interesting...think I may need to narrow down my interest too.

I wrote a reply before but I'm not sure it submitted properly - or I didn't press the button. Just wanted to say thanks Dr Mark, that's good of you to say, and yes the amount of articles makes sense now, especially with the percentage takeaway.

    You go here: https://hubpages.com/my/earnings/affiliate/

And you configure the top option.  If you get to a part you don't understand, come back here and ask about it.
