Switching Hubs from "Live" to "Off Air"

Even if we don't press the "Save" button, any changes we make to a hub become live as soon as a capsule is saved. Is this the case when capsules are moved around? Could we have a button to take hubs "off air" while we're editing?

There's a "Don't display this capsule" feature when editing the capsule.  If you click that, the capsule will be hidden from readers but not to you.

I know Robin, but when I'm editing, I'm constantly chopping and changing multiple capsules at the same time as I add text or cut and paste and move bits from one to another. Then maybe I end up shuffling everything around. So having to keep checking and unchecking boxes would be a pain. Also it could be confusing if a reader finds capsules/diagrams missing.
Is there a reason why edits change an article immediately and "done editing" isn't what we would expect it to be, an "update 2 button? I guess the supporting code hasn't been implemented to allow a new and previous version to exist and for the previous version to be replaced by the new version? However when editors change our hubs, they seem to be able to produce several versions of a hub (live, original, edited with highlights).

I can see where checking and unchecking would be a pain.  Edits have always changed immediately.   I believe it was to make sure that content wasn't lost if connectivity is lost.  The versions during editing is different because we only take two snapshots, where what you would need is many more.  As long as you do your edits in one sitting, I don't think the reader experience will be impacted too much.  At least in the 13 years, we've never had a complaint.

When capsules are moved around, is the live version updated immediately? That would be the most confusing scenario if for instance they see a capsule in the middle of nowhere e.g. on its travels from the bottom to top of a hub.

I believe it saves fairly quickly, but you'd have to have someone click on the article right at that moment to see the capsules in the wrong place.  If you leave your article in an unfinished state for an extended period of time, that's when you will have a poor reader experience.

I guess if you are really worried about what those few people would see if they visit you hub while you are working on it, you could unpublish it while it's "under construction." They would get a 404 error.
