Excuse me if this has been asked, but I couldn't find anything on it.
Basically, I have an article that had been up for over two years now and the response from the fandom it's directed at has been generally lovely, however I have gone in a few times to make minor edits to it with no noticeable changes from the site staff, but with the most recent edit and submit, some moderator took it upon themselves to entirely rearrange the layout of the article. It was laid out effectively before, going from number 50 at the top to 1 at the very bottom as a countdown style list, and now that has been totally messed up.
Are staff edits like that common for articles that have been up for a long time untouched? I think it really ruins the flow of how I originally intended for it to be read, just because a lone staff member changed it to fit their personal layout standard when seemingly all others have left it as I'd envisioned. Am I allowed to revert this? Or should it be left as is because someone on the staff changed it.
Bottom line is, you have the right to alter, change, rearrange and/or ignore edits because the article is your original creation.
Having said that it is also I think of benefit for writers to work with editors for the common good - to increase views and hopefully earnings. This has to be done honestly and openly and in my experience editors here at HP so far have been excellent. Generally, edits have been helpful.
In your case, if the changes are too radical, if you're unhappy and have no joy communicating with the editor, then you have the right to change the article back to what it was.
I should add that the editor also added video links which the article never originally featured either, I was hesitant to add those because the upkeep would be so difficult to maintain on such a large article, but now it looks like I'm going to have to do so?
If you don't like it, you can change it back. It happened to one of mine where alpha order was changed to search engine popularity order. To most people reading it, it wouldn't have made any sense. It's a total pain, tbh.
Having said that, all other editors have done excellent jobs and I'm very pleased with the 'upgrades'.
I agree that it is very annoying when this happens. The thing is, the editors usually have good reasons for making changes, and when they can explain them you might see their point. But, when things just get changed without discussion, it is upsetting.
I can't speak for them, but I would suspect the reason for the change was because 50 bands is a long way to count down. Had it only been a top-10 list they may have let it be. They likely wanted to see the most important entries closer to the top. Just a guess. Again, an explanation from the editor who made the change would have been helpful.
The videos shouldn't make it harder to maintain. I have hundreds of them in my Hubs and they rarely require attention. If one gets removed or something you'll get a broken links notice.
Love Loudness, by the way! \m/
Thank you, and that's fair. I agree without an explanation it was / is difficult for me to understand what their exact goal was when there had never really been a prior issue.
As suggested by the couple replies above, I'll reverse it from 1-50 to 50-1 again as it was before (I expected most readers to skip through much of it anyway so it's generally not too difficult to read, but the buildup from lesser to greater was certainly my original intent that needs to be restored), I am alright with other modifications made though.
I appreciate everybody's responses.

I am pretty insulted. Sorry, but it had to be said. I had written an article on here that had done really well. In fact, it was one of my top earners. I went to answer a comment on it, and I stared at it for at least five minutes. I no longer recognised it! The photos had been changed, the writing...

How do you deal with a change that was made to an article by an HP editor? They unnecessarily changed the title of the article, I'd like to change it back to what it was. Is that what everyone else does when this kind of thing happens? Curious.

Well, I hope I am posting this in the right spot. I've been on Hubpages now a little over 3 months, and am enjoying it thoroughly, all the writers here have been great. I have done a lot of research on increasing traffic to my hubs, and mostly people seem to collectively agree that to really boost...

In case you haven't noticed, there's a massive edit of Owlcation articles going on. For the most part, I can only quibble about changes made, although a few irritating issues have cropped up. I suggest checking the editing because some errors are finding their way into articles. One or two of my...

Then I have to change them back again. Grrr!If thumbnails were displayed properly, it would be fine. But they're tiny, the selected image is tiny and can't be zoomed and captions can't be viewed while viewing the image. Overall it results in a bad reader experience.

Once a hub has been changed how is there a way of seeing your old hub exactly like it once was?
