I'm sure this is a really simple question, but how/where do I insert the Amazon HTML code for the product I'm trying to sell from my blog. I really tried to search for the right phrase but nothing meaningful ever came up. Sorry.

Do you have an Amazon Associate Account? You need to have about 15 to 20 featured articles before applying following the instructions here:

      https://hubpageshelp.com/money/Learning … te-account

Use an Amazon Capsule or an in text link (chain symbol) to insert the Amazon HTML code.

      Hi George,

      Welcome to HubPages.

As you are brand new here, you shouldn't worry about the technicalities just yet. Research the platform by reading everything you can at the Learning Center: https://hubpageshelp.com/

And then when you are ready, try publishing your first article. remember that HubPages is not a blogging site so your articles need to be original, evergreen and around 1,000 words or more.

      Good luck.

Edit: I just read your bio. You need to know that you can't do affiliate marketing here. You earn via the HubPages ad program, Adsense and Amazon. You can't place adverts, apart from Amazon - and you have to be quite 'frugal' with those. This is a site for writers, not marketers. It takes a long while and a lot of effort before any real money comes in.

Thanks Raggededge. Outside of the HTML code I think you would be pleasantly surprised despite my not so good choice of words. I was thinking of going ahead and publishing it on the network but I don't see one that even remotely matches my topic, which happens to be a 1600+ word list that DOES have at least a paragraph on each of the 10 drummers that I've listed. I also have it all APA formatted and resourced, and none of them are even from Wikipedia. So, it's quite professionally done. I could send it to you directly, but I know that's not your job. Any suggestions?

        Hi George,

When an article is first published, it goes into a queue where, eventually, it is assessed for a network site. You don't have to choose the site; it's done for you. Sometimes it takes a few days, sometimes a bit longer.

Older articles can be submitted manually; you choose the site but if the editors decide it's a better fit for another one, they move it there.

No, don't use Wikipedia as a reference if you can avoid doing so.

And, no, again... don't send it to me smile Just get it published.

OK. I thought I was all done and ready to publish. I had created statements with titles of the books I wanted to sell for each of the drummers along with the long HTML codes and inserted all those codes in the links. It showed the orange link, but when I clicked on it after saving it it only brought up the HP page where I was editing. What did I do wrong?

        Hi George,

If you try to add many Amazon links, your article won't be approved. Just add one.

Secondly, use the chain link icon in the text capsule toolbar to add an Amazon link, using the book title as anchor text. You can't use HTML (except for the very basic stuff). Highlight the title, click on the chain link icon, click on the Amazon tab and your book should be there. Click it, click Save.

I was about to give up on HP certainly not because of you or anyone else here (thanks again). I'm just trying to create a space where I can show my good, maybe even great writing skills, (at least that's what many have told me) and hopefully build other internet marketing skills. Also, here I don't have to spend anything, but I can still learn how to get great traffic and maybe even make some pocket change just so I can see how that whole process works. I'd like to put my HP link on my resume and on LinkedIn so I can lead them here. I'm really trying to get a foot in the door, and at least trotting by the time I graduate so prospective employers see that I'm at least trying to hustle.

I had tried to write about drums and pro audio years ago before Squidoo was eaten up by HP, so it was a WHILE ago. But I found out that those were niches that were just way too competitive. Then, some professors at school, and at the Income School suggested that lists were very appealing to Google. I then found a site called ListVerse.com and I originally wrote the article that I was going to put up here for that site, but I changed my mind because I knew this place had much better traffic.

One of my professors, who's also a musician suggested writing blogs about picking great rock and roll (or whatever) tunes and blogging either with video or text blog. Only problem is I no longer own a drum kit and my chops are WAAY out of shape so I didn't think I could make that work. Obviously, I can't blog here, I'm just trying to hustle and start swimming instead of just jumping in the pool over and over again and never learning how to actually swim. Does that make sense. I'm just really frustrated.

Have you taken a look at the music network site?

Could you write articles like these?

      https://spinditty.com/

No point giving up before you even try.

WOW! RaggedEdge! No wonder they pay you all the big buck$! I wish they had given a better descriptive name, I would have checked it out sooner. However, from first glance if I can't come up with something out of all that grist material I might as well give up. Tell them I said give you a raise.

      Thanks again,
      George

So, RaggedEdge (wish I knew just your 1st name) could you tell me exactly how I could find out if these lists are appealing to Google, and if so, which ones are the most appealing. I'm trying to stir my creative juices.

Listicles are quite successful although they really need to contain a good amount of information.

The thing is, is that your topic needs to be appealing to searchers. So try typing the main keyword into the Google search box, let's say 'best drummers'. Do not press Enter. You will see a whole lot of suggestions appear. Any of those could be an article title.

Now press Enter. Scroll down a bit and you will see 'People also ask'... with three more suggestions.

Scroll to the bottom of the results and you'll see "Searches related to best drummers"

        Plenty of ideas there, yes?

You can do that with any topic.

It's Bev. If you click on my name or photo in the message, it will take you to my profile. In the scrolling list of 'In the spotlight' articles there is How to Write a Good Article for HubPages. I can't link it here because it's against forum rules.

Yeah, thanks. I knew that much from my school work thus far, but I didn't know if there was anything else about HP that's appealing to Google. Not suggesting anything untoward, like severely reshaping election search results.

Hi George. Bev (raggededge) is not an employee of HubPages. She, in common with a few others here, doesn't get paid for offering advice to new writers. We do it on a volunteer basis, and Bev is one of the very best at it.

So I figured Rupert. Just joking with her about her great advice and patience with beginners like me. It WOULD be great if SOME compensation could go to people like her that are so forthcoming with their help. Nothing extravagant, but kind of an incentive-type thing.
