I know here at HP we are told that adding to and editing our high traffic articles is a good idea from time to time. What I am curious about is if that goes for hubs that have been moved to niche sites as well. If I edit something that has already been snipped and edited by staff and moved over could that cause issues with it being removed and landing back on hubpages.
One article about medical debt I wrote years ago, I have some new personal experience and information to add. The article is on toughnickel and I worry that adding or changing it could cause it to be removed. This is my most popular article, the information is beneficial and would add to the over all article. I could potentially drag the information out and make a stand alone article but honestly I feel like I would be adding a lot of filler content and would rather just use a smaller amount of text to share the details in the article where it is relevant.
Does anyone have experience editing and adding to something moved to a niche site that could weigh in? I am really on the fence about even hitting the edit button for that article.
I edit and update all of my niche articles at least once a year to keep Google happy. After I edit them, the HP editors take a look at them. So far all that has happened for me is either nothing and the article stays on the niche site or the editors make some minor edits (usually capitalization) and the article stays on the niche site.
I don't see any reason why updating an article to include your personal experience would be cause for your article to be demoted to HubPages and even if it were, all you would have to do is delete the new info and submit it to the niche site again.
I say go for it!
Thanks so much for the input and sharing your experience! I think I was just stressing as this particular article is my top earner/most traffic and fearful of making changes. It has dropped a bit in google search ranking so perhaps adding a little update will do it some good too.
I have done so, and the articles have stayed on the niche site. I don't know that it makes any difference which site they are on. If you think it needs an edit by you, I think you should do it.
I recently had them snip an article on letterpile by removing a video they said was irrelevant. I thought the article didn't need a video when I published it and just put one on because they ask for videos. I'm glad they took the darned thing off. Had I known, I would have beaten them to the punch.
You say:
"If I edit something that has already been snipped and edited by staff and moved over could that cause issues with it being removed and landing back on hubpages."
I would love to hear from anyone who has experienced this. AFAIK, it's an empty threat that is made by HubPages. I have never found anyone it has happened to.
Editorial changes are only suggestions - you are the author and you own the work. so you are allowed to change it back if you wish.
Links are a different story - if a link is snipped, it's probably because it's breaking a rule. So before you consider putting it back, it's important to work out why it has been snipped.
Not touching anything they edited, and no links. Just adding a small useful capsule of relevant information from continued experience on the topic.
I just was not clear on if it was a good idea or if anyone had experienced it happening as I had not edited or updated anything moved over ~ not saying it has happened just asking experiences.
I understand that, and I'm saying that I was on HubPages for many years (with another account) and I have never met anyone who had a Hub moved back due to editing.
I see that now sorry for the confusion, my son decided 4am was a good time to get up today. So my thought process is a little jumbled this evening.
I agree with OldRoses. I’m currently updating my articles. I’m trying not to alter any changes made by an editor, but other than this I update my niche site articles in whatever way I think would be helpful. Adding the new information that you describe sounds like a great idea.
Oh I would never edit something they changed. Never seen a change that did not improve readability for my articles. I did add a new capsule to it so fingers crossed that all does well and the information is beneficial to the reader.
I update my articles, which helps my google rankings and impressions. I don't think you would be removed from a niche site without warning, though. I could be wrong, but I think the editor would change the article back if he or she didn't like what you did.
I update and change articles all the time, sometimes making changes to alterations made by editors because it just doesn't scan right. My most popular articles have been updated/edited hundreds of times.
Just wanted to come back and thank everyone for their comments and helpfulness! I am happy to report that I added the new capsule and have gotten an email that it was reviewed and still remains on the niche site.
I guess I was worried for no reason after all. Thanks again everyone!

What's the point in keeping us from linking to our own work in our articles? That's how we increase traffic to our articles!

I have been pleased with the audience and revenue for my articles on HubPages since joining the site some years ago.I commend the company for creating the successful niche sites at a time when similar sites were folding. My existing articles that moved to those sites have done even better than...

I have an article that an editor has made substantial changes too. Including adding a bio that they wrote themselves. I have not seen an edit this bad in quite some time on one of my articles, and I do not want to go through the whole article and rewrite half of it. I've already spent countless...

A few weeks ago, I posted some thoughts on why traffic is falling for many writers and what we might do about it. One of the things I considered is that massive rewrites and fresh articles may be the ticket to clawing back on some of these traffic drops. Here is some more food for thought on that...

Hi,Do more experienced Hubbers have any useful tips for getting your article moved to a niche site? I kept seeing advice that goes something like "make sure you write a high-quality article" but it just seems so vague to me. I have 9 articles now and the only one that was moved to a niche...
