Nothing like unsolicited advice to start your day! I am a returning member, mostly because I'm sentimental, but after poking around here for a few days I am realizing that it's best to just focus on what I've been doing in the literary world over these last 7 years. I have invested an unspeakable amount of money in business coaching and advice, and if I could offer anything to you, I would say make sure you grow, nurture and keep an email list. It is the key to privacy if you want it, and as social media platforms shutdown large accounts at whim, you maintain your readers/fans/followers. YES, you might not LOOK as popular as you would with large social media accounts, but you have your own economy with an email list, whether your currency is engagement or old fashioned money. It's the most financially valuable things I could tell you and it's the life blood of your future in writing. It's stable. It's free (except for the CRM costs, I guess), and it's YOURS. You are not at the mercy of websites, or social media platforms which can be extremely fickle.
This community was very special to me years ago, and I am cheering for your success.

Oh, I think I wasn't clear! It's not at all about the software. What I'm describing can be done with a spreadsheet (It's clunkier, but doable). The key is the connection! With ANY CRM I would have someone pull out the email addresses and save in about 5 separate places. But maintaining that connection with people who want to know what you're up to is really, really important.
This is good advice, but I don't know that it is usable for HubPages writers. We'd have to send readers to another landing page somewhere, and since we wouldn't be allowed to link out in our article we'd have to put it in our profile links. The number of readers who would move from our article, to our profile, to our landing page and then give up their email would be extremely small. Maybe as small as zero.
Unless you can think of another way, we'd still need another web presence besides HubPages that attracted a lot of readers in order to capture the emails.

A few weeks ago, I was interviewed by the senior editor of Kiplinger's about my experiences on Hubpages. I just got an email from the editor, who confirmed that the story will be in the March 2012 edition of Kiplinger's. I'm psyched!

Yep...it's true. I give great advice, encourage others, offer support, stay devoted, remain committed, work like hell (darn, I cussed) to sustain my committment, and say positive things. I write articles about reminders of new love in a marriage and publish love letters I got from spouse...

Hooray! I got the final click on AdSense to take me to payday (too bad I spent it all at the grocery store last night). LOL

...but not too hard. Seems there's plenty already on it, and I'd hate to be the one who causes the hubs to snap off. (Sorry, bad pun, but hell, I just couldn't resist.)So, since I'm assuming that this is the official "newbie doesn't know what the he's doing" section, I...

As HP is no longer invested in helping or investing in its writers, I'm going to leave all my stuff on Discover for the residual (dwindling) income. At least for the time being. But, I'm also going to revamp them and republish them, splitting them between my own site and Medium.
