Hello there!
Whenever I view my articles' status to look at its view duration, it would sometimes either amaze me or left me scratching my head. This particular thread is for the latter. Some of my articles have little view durations on them. How does one increase it? Does it something have to do with improving on what you wrote, how you wrote it, or improving the overall article itself? Thanks!
I personally feel like it has to do with the first paragraph. When writing on the internet, it is imperative that we show the reader that the article they have pulled up is worth reading.
When I buy a book, I am going to read at least a few chapters. If it is really bad I will toss it, but of course I have already bought it so I am at least going to give it a chance. That is not the case on the internet. When a reader takes the time to pull up my article, looks at it and bounces out of it in a few seconds, it does not matter if the content is good and has all the answers. (Google and other search engines will notice that the readers bounce out of the article in a few seconds and the article will lose page rank everytime it is "read".)
Unfortunately we see new writers making this mistake all the time. Their article will be fine, but the first paragraph is poorly crafted and the reader says to himself or herself "this is a waste of time" and leaves. The ads do not load so there is no impression. Even if that first paragraph is okay, and the title of the article is "5 secrets on how to make a widget really cheap" but the first section goes and discusses the history of widgets, many readers are going to be lost.

I noticed that one of the Hubmetrics numbers on hubs is view duration. It tells you how long people stay glued to each of your hubs before clicking away for something else. I know that Google measures view duration as well. Do you think that pages that get viewed longer are...

Hi. I noticed that the view duration on my hubs has only been measured on two of them. It will be five months soon that I've been on here. Is that about the going rate or time period -- or is it that we only get a couple measured for view duration? Lots yet to learn. Thank you.

Does anyone have any definitive information on this as the SEO advice is rather mixed. Some say that googlebot looks for keywords in the first sentence. It also relates to the text displayed on the SERP. Of course there may be negatives in terms of keyword stuffing and 'gaming'. I have noticed that...

In the hub stats, view duration shows up as stars. Some of my longer hubs have five stars. One of the shorter ones, which has good search engine traffic, shows as three stars. I'm wondering if this means readers skip out before the end, or if it's because It's a shorter piece, therefore they would...

I have just realised that the view duration for several hubs of mine is not properly working. Hubs that were previously showing a duration are now reporting that not enough data has been collected. Here are some examples:...

These show at the top of each article, but it would be nice to view them easily. This would give writers an idea as to how engaged readers are without having to check Google Analytics and would be much less tedious. With this feature, we would quickly know which hubs need to be upgraded.
