      1. Johnny Got His Gun. It's a stream of consciousness novel about a soldier in WW1. Suspenseful and captivating. No spoilers.

      2. 1984.  A classic, I guess everybody knows this one. It's about a dystopian future where the government controls everyone. Of course,, Orwell wasn't talking about the future.

      3. The Awakening of Intelligence. I guess you'd categorize this as philosophy. I've read a lot of Krishnamurti but I guess this book stands out because he's in rare form, making fun of gurus and actually having a dialogue with a Swami and also his friend and physicist David Bohm. As far as Krishnamurti goes, I also loved his book The Ending of Time, a dialogue with David Bohm, and the book of his Last Talks, which is other-worldly and deep.

      4. The Power of Your Supermind. Again, could call this a book of philosophy but it's mainly practical advice on how to navigate the world. Similar to Krishnamurti, with a twist. Written by a rather prolific writer and teacher named Vernon Howard. I also really liked Mystic Path to Cosmic Power by Howard and another book written by Ken Keyes called Handbook to Higher Consciousness.

      5. Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace. This is a very political book and I like it mostly because of Vidal's very readable style of writing. Also interesting because he includes his own dialogues with, and views on, Timothy McVey. McVey was the guy who was executed for the bombing in Oklahoma City of a government building  As far as political books go, I'd add Democracy for the Few by Michael Parenti too.

Well, let's say that I am really into historical fiction. Most of them are works of authors with history degrees or archeology which provides a lot of credibility in their books.
My all time favourite is Johannes Agellos or otherwise called The Dark Angel written by Mika Waltari. It takes place in the last years before the fall of Constantinple in 1453. It has the form of a diary and shows a mysterious man who returns to his birthplace to die with the city he loves and falls in love with a woman along the way. The writing is so vivid and sends shivers to your body. It has a strong metaphorical language and emotions. I adore that book and never get bored of reading it. You feel like a Byzantine citizen in the last days of the powerful empire.

The second one is Alexander: The child of a dream which is a part of a trilogy written by the italian Valerio Massimo Manfredi. It shows the life of Alexander the Great until he reaches Asia. How he grew up, his ambitions, his passions, his will, his smartness and so many things. I ''fell in love'' with that person since I read that book. It was quite accurate and explainatory to say the least. I truly loved it!

The third is called ''The thousand'' by Kevin Guifoile. It combines both mystery, history, fiction as it takes place in recent years in Chicago. The main character is Canada Gold, a girl both gifted and burdened by uncanny mental abilities, is putting her skills to questionable use in the casinos and courthouses of Las Vegas when she finds herself drawn back to the city in which her father, the renowned composer Solomon Gold, was killed while composing his magnum opus. Beautiful, brilliant, troubled, Canada has never heard of the Thousand, a clandestine group of powerful individuals safeguarding and exploiting the secret teachings of Pythagoras. But as she struggles to understand her father’s unsolved murder, she finds herself caught in the violence erupting between members of the fractured ancient cult while she is relentlessly pursued by those who want to use her, those who want to kill her, and the one person who wants to save her. (Part taken by goodreads). It had an amazing pace and I loved the combination of maths, music, mystery, history and action.

The fourth actually would be The picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde even though I haven't read yet except from a small part in my literature class, I fell in love with the writing. I loved all the story and Dorian's character. His narcissistic  behavior is so interesting and especially the time it was written created a huge scandal but I want to read it completely as a friend of mine bought it for me as a gift.

The fifth one one would be the Etruscan by Mika Waltari again. No words again for this. I love his writing and his stories. So many pictures, emotions and rythm that I am in love with the way he writes.

It's a good selection but I caution you against copy and pasting other people's reviews, passing it off as your own writing, even in the forum.

Grumpy old pedant alert. The title reads "Write your top 5 favourite books?"

    I can't, they've already been written.
