What's the Best Way of Getting Multiple Parts of an Article to Rank?

I have a couple of these and only one part is listed. The other doesn't rank anywhere in SERPS for nearly all the title. Sometimes because the articles are so similar, it isn't feasible to have totally different keywords in the title.

Do you mean two different articles on the same (or similar) topic?

If yes, your second article not ranking is quite normal (it's termed keyword cannibalization). In most cases, this second article is very likely holding your other article back in terms of ranking on Google.

Is there no way to merge these two articles?

I actually split them. The original was about mixing concrete by hand, but over the years I tagged on a section on using a mixer. Its title is "8 Steps to Mixing Concrete by Hand Without a Cement Mixer". It ranks in 5th place according to Ubersuggest for "mixing concrete" and gets about 200 visits daily in the summer. Last week I took out the mixing with a mixer section and created a whole new article called "Easy Steps to Making Concrete With a Cement". This doesn't rank for most of the keywords, unless I search for the complete title. I changed to "Making" from "Mixing" yesterday, but there's not much else I can change I don't think. My concern now is that it may pull the original down in the ranks or cause it to lose traffic, especially if it was gaining traffic from readers searching about cement mixers (that section now being absent from the article).

Why not remove "without a cement mixer" from the first one? "By Hand" tells you there's no machinery involved.

Why didn't I think of that? Originally that's what it was called, but I added the cement mixer bit when I included the extra content in tbe guide. I'll try that and see what happens.

It seems "concrete" is the problem keyword with this new guide. Mentioning it causes the older article to appear in SERPs, but excludes the new one. If I just search for "steps cement mixer", my new guide is top of the list in SERPS. If I use a long tailed phrase "making concrete with a cement mixer", it doesn't appear in 200 results.

why not add those specific words to your article especially if makes the article hit top of the list. Good luck!
