Are we allowed to do this?

Do you mean putting your HubPages profile link in a photo's URL field? If so, no, that is not allowed. That field should be used for source material only.

Ok, even if we are the source and owner of the photo? I guess linking back to HubPages is the issue rather than the link being self-promotional. Can we link to our "Maven" profile?

Oh, I thought you meant just anyone's photo so I was a bit confused. Not sure why I read it that way. I would recommend linking to your "Maven" profile, but it is up to you.

With HubPages being seen as a bad neighborhood, it's not a good idea.

That's a good idea. I should do that on my original photos when I get the time.

If I have lots of photos, would there be any implication of using backlinks to my profile on all of them? As regards Google that is.

You would be linking from your owlcation articles to your owlcation profile page. There shouldn't be a problem. Dengarden to dengarden and so on

The way the transfer of niche sites to the new format is going, HubPages is beginning to look like the good neighbourhood.

I used to do that all the time in the past when the niche sites weren't there yet because I nearly always use my own photos. Then I stopped and removed most of them because I thought at one moment it wasn't allowed and seemed too promotional. So now I have to put those links back again? yikes

No, you don't have to. It's your choice whether you do or not.

Hi, Marrisa. You told me to one of my posts that posting the URL of photos from Wikimedia and Flickr is optional, is it right? I have difficulty with posting it because I am using a mobile. It cannot paste to it. I type the letters one by one and when I notice a mistake. I would delete the entire URL. It wastes time. Thank you.

No, that's not what I said.

If you use images from Wikimedia, you MUST use their URL. However, I do not recommend Wikimedia because it's no longer policed well, and there are too many illegal images there.

If you use Flickr, do not use the URL of the photo.  Instead, use the URL of the photographer's Flickr profile - or their photography website if they have one.

If you use Pixabay or Pexels you do not need the URL so they will be easier for you.

Actually, when using Flickr we usually use the photo's URL because the reader may click on that link to find that photo specifically. The photographer's profile is easily accessible from that page.

When using Pixabay/Pexels/Unsplash, we do encourage giving photographers credit just for the exposure. Plus, when you download from those sites, an easy copy/paste pop-up appears with all the necessary information.
