This has been an ongoing problem for years on desktop and mobile devices, but it doesn't appear to work whatsoever now on desktop. Also thumbnailed images are miniscule and can't be increased in size to the width of text, even if uploded at over 1200 pixel width.
I just checked and images uploaded at 1200 and converted to thumbnails are displayed at 330 pixels wide which is much too low a resolution to show any detail. There's also another annoying artefact, a grey translucent bar covering the bottom of images when the mouse cursor is hovered over the scroll arrows.
Images are the full width of text paragraphs on the old HubPages platform and zoom can be accomplished by right clicking, clicking view image, then clicking "+".
Maybe a software hook can be built into the code to implement these mouse actions.
I also noticed the editors will group pics in thumbnail pattern whether or not the author has done so. And, yes, it diminishes the size, thus view, of each photo. I think photos enhance an article especially if they've been taken by the author and not just grabbed from a site that provides creative commons or public domain images. How-to and step-by-step articles benefit from full size images shown in succession.
Just bumping this up again. Zoom doesn't work on images on mobile devices, so readers can't read explanatory text on our images (unless we make it large, ok for Pinterest type images, not other text or small detail).
Just to clarify, the two finger gesture thing just magnifies the image on screen, it doesn't show the image to full uploaded resolution (which is capped at 1020 pixels wide, irrespective of the horizontal width in pixels of the image before upload).

In looking over my edited hubs, I find many inconsistencies. Some hubs will be changed so that all large photos are seen (for mobile viewers?), others will be changed into thumbnails, others not changed at all. Some photos are moved above the text capsule, others below. What does HP now consider to...

Apologies in advance for asking a question I should know the answer to, but I just can't keep track anymore, and the search function is not yielding any helpful results. When writing new hubs or updating old ones, is it now recommended to place photos and videos so they take up the full width of the...

I just realized that people are using full width images in their hubs again, even at the beginning. The team used to tell us NOT to do that because at the top of the article a photo makes a post take to long to load and also takes up space that should be given to advertisers and in the middle...

Been fixing my lens/hubs and this morning I worked on the story about my Dirty Family Secret.Everything looks okay (though I'm concerned how to deal with that duel module) except for one photo in the slideshow. On Squidoo, this photo looked just fine. Hub Pages blow it up huge as possible and of...

There seems to be two issues. Firstly tapping on an image on a mobile device doesn't expand an image. Maybe it's not supposed to? I tried doing the two fingered thing on the unexpanded image, but it was impossible to read the text on it, although I know it's legible on my original image. The same...

I may be the only person that feels this way but I really don't like the look of our hubs. I think they would look more professional if they were wider. They remind me of blog posts.
