Hello...
This question is for any of you who write works of fiction, whether here on HP, or as books, novellas, or short stories in any other media.
How do you come up with your character's surnames? Telephone books? News articles? Other books? Made from whole cloth out of your own imaginations?
This inquiring mind wants to know....
Liz, my characters names just pop into my head. I have no idea where they come from, but I go with it every time because I don't have to think about it. They simply show up.
I generally think about the time place and culture of whoever would have named them.
Depends on a lot of variations, genre of the story, and the overall story: race, culture, history, etc. Sometimes, names would just pop into my head and I'd voice it out to hear if the name fits. Other times, I would have a deep look into their character profiles. Aside from made-up ones, I also use real-world names and would anagram them sometimes.

How do you pick names for your pets?We had some unusual names for our pets when I was a kid (my brother named one cat "Mody" because the cat sounded like its 'motor' was running when it purred. Any cute stories about pets' names in your household?
