Voltaire was a great writer, but he never said that. It's an example of a commonly misattributed quote.
Paul Goodman, I read or came across the quote in many places. All that I saw attributed it to Voltaire.
Misattribution are common thing these days. I did an analysis of a poem that was attributed to Maya Angelou, it turned out to be misattribution. Someone pointed it out to me with the name of the right author and date of publication.
That help to guide my research to find the truth. Can you help with the name of the original author of that quote? Just any info that could guide a research. I will be grateful for it.
